Which aftermarket speakers are thin enough for front doors?

you don't have to live in the projects to get broken into ,,,,,, just any mall will do.

I installed 2 channel Sony Xplodes in the front door panels (5.25 I think) and rear (6x9) and there were no issues with interference with the window, actuator, etc...

I installed a Sony Xplodes deck as well and the system sounds very good. I didn’t like the tube sound I was getting from the shallow door panels and rear body panels so I put some sound dampening insulation behind the speakers to reduce the tinny/tube effect. It sounds pretty solid now...

I put 5 1/4 infinity reference up front and used the OEM speaker cover and assembly from the rear to give me enough space to miss the window. I put some 6x9 infinitys in the rear and used the supplied speaker cover. I stuck an Alpine amp under the drivers seat and put in a Pioneer head unit and CB where the stock radio was. Works great.

Did you have to cut anything to get the CB to fit? I've got a CB that I've had in my last few vehicles, but can't seem to find a good place to mount it in the Land Cruiser. It's not big, but just a bit too large to fit in that little compartment below the radio. On top of the dash would be a nice place but I can't bring myself to make holes there - plus it might attract prying eyes if it's in plain view on top of the dash. Do you have any pics of your CB installed? That's my next project, now if I can just find my CB antenna!

FYI: I'm sticking with Kenwood speakers for the front, the Sony deck with an iPod connection, and probably Sony Xplod 4 way speakers (6x9) for the back which I will likely buy tonight. No plans for amp at this time.

I had to cut out a little around the edges to get it to fit and cut a piece of plastic to fit around the cb.

That's a good place for your CB. You're lucky that yours has the microphone cable plug at the front... mine has it at the side. I'd have to buy a new CB if I wanted to install it in that spot you've used. Thanks for the pic - it's nice to see how it looks in that spot. The speaker grilles on the front doors look nice too, though I will use the stock door panel grilles so as to not attract attention to them (thinking of break-ins). I'm sure the speakers sound better too since the door panels (on the 60 series anyways, not sure about the 62 series), has speaker grilles that are actually smaller than the speaker! I'm sure more and better sound would come out of they weren't partially covered.

One of the reasons I used the rear speaker covers in the front was one of my front covers was missing and the other was damaged. It works pretty good, I just need to secure it a little better to the door and door frame.

Yo! I put in the Pioneer TS-G1341R which have a pretty shallow mount. The window still hit a little when rolled all the way down, but with a couple of washers between the speaker and the door it cleared just fine. They sound great and were $46 from onlinecarstereo.com. The panels went back on just fine. The panels are flexible and would be pretty forgiving if you spaced the speakers out from the door a little. It's nice being able to use the factory grills too.

Good news! The Kenwood KFC-1361S speakers (5 1/4") fit perfectly! No washers or spacers, no contact with the window and they don't make the door panel with the factory grilles bulge at all. They're 3 way speakers and sound pretty good for such thin and light speakers, so there's another one we can add to the list of speakers that work in a 60 series (and I'm guessing also in a 62). The hardest part is drilling 4 new holes for the screws since the 3 factory bolts for the OEM speakers won't line up. Takes no more than a few minutes and you're done.
