I don't think I've posted these. This was our annual After X-mas camping trip, 2012, at Lake Russel WMA, just outside of Toccoa, GA.. 397746_4602349970138_1499858940_n.webp 318525_4602351010164_775514962_n.webp 540865_4602351410174_1337251800_n.webp

rj- Is the overhang in the pic at a spot you have to hike to, down by the river? I remember camping at a spot like that, but haven't been able to find it again.

THX- I've wanted to take my son by there, but couldn't find the spot after a bit of riding.

Took advantage of unseasonably warm weather we're having. Blew a tire, and my transfer case is starting to howl. Otherwise a beautiful trip. Early February. T-shirt weather. Crazy:

Atomic your pictures look like you are somewhere close to me. If your ever in my area send me a pm

Great pics, thanks for sharing !

I'm assuming that's a AutoHome Columbus Variant RTT i see perched on the Cruiser ?

If so, I'm curious to hear your thoughts and comments since I'm very close to pulling the trigger on exactly the same setup. Trying to decide if I need std length or extra long....which is only avail in the medium width.

Thanks !!

We love this thing. We are super happy with the wedge rather than the Maggiolina; so much more headroom and it's great for stargazing. The mattress is very comfortable as is, but we added a light feather topper for a little more cush. I'm 5'10 and I wish we had the extra 7.8-ish inches – there's plenty of unused room on the Baja rack for it. My only complaint is closing it. I dug my own grave here by having so much bedding up there. It just takes a little muscle to catch the latch.

We paid more for the tent than this 80 ... I would do it again in a heartbeat.

HEY.. I like that camp set up. I am considering buying an FJ80, and will be doing some solo camping to fish/hunt,
and also when my son goes to Boy Scout Camps, sometimes the Dads will sleep in their trucks. I was planning on
opening up the rear window and tailgate, and put a mattress pad in the back. But ideally, I'd like to close off the
rear from the elements and bugs. How did you do this? Is this an aftermarket product? or did you make this?

Any more pics?

Thanks.

This thread sparked an idea for my and my now wife's honeymoon...

Love and a Landcruiser... It's a beautiful thing... :hillbilly:

... I married the right one...

And Congratulations!

I'm a lucky one too. Married a tomboy. Not afraid to get dirty. Thinks wandering for days in the middle of nowhere is fun...

Grrrr...f'n XP, about time for a new 'puter.

Let me try this again.

There are two enclosures at the rear of the truck when we camp. The big one for the kitchen/living room is an 8'x10' awning that's made for tailgaters who face a limited space restriction. I got solid and mesh enclosures for a 10'x10' awning, which allows enough extra to drape nicely and enclose around the back of the truck on the outside. We even have a window we picked up for it.

Underneath the tailgate is a panel I made that helps enclose the awning space.

Inside, I modified a DAC tailgate tent to fit the truck a little better. The green panel underneath is what I added. The provides a better "pocket" to fit around the tailgate and let the hacth rise all the way on it's struts. It encloses the "bedroom" in the back of the truck for better mosquito-proofing. We use a folding step stool to get in.

Inside, things get a bit more plush...

The fridge slides back at night and a panel fill the well it sits in, which also provides a bit more space if that's needed to change clothes, stash outdoor gear at night, etc. The DAC tailgate tent can also be used on it's own if you're away from camp when night falls.
