Where did you mount your trailer brake controller?

Bringing up an old thread, does anyone have any recommendations for an adhesive strip that works on the LX pebbled plastic dash? For mounting a tekonsha. Have tried a couple of things, no dice.
I tried a few different adhesives. Non worked for long, I used screws into the plastic.

3M VHB foam tape. There are a few varieties so check their website for the PDF which works best for plastic. You press it on and after 15-30 minutes it’s on super tight. I previously used some to attach solar panels to the roof of a trailer, and it would hold them in 75mph winds…

I've relocated my Prodigy P3 to the center console. Much better in this location, out of the way of knees. Cut-out ash tray and stuffed her in. Fits nicely here.

Thought about getting a Redarc for its tidy controls which is a big pro. At the same time, I do like the Prodigy display with more positive feedback. It's come in handy on a few occasions to debug connections. Towing often in the mountains, I also take advantage of their proprietary brake boost function to have the trailer brakes lead the tow vehicle, to keep the lash up in tension to better ensure stability.

Love my Prodigy P3. Kept it after moving from a Tundra to an F250. Missed it in the F250.
Now moving it to my new to me 2013 LX.

How much of the ashtray did you cut out? Enough to push the back of the P3 through or just for the cable. Putting mine in the same location. I only town 5ish times per year, so want to be able to close up the ashtray when i'm not using it.

As much as I like the minimalist interface of the RedArc, like you, I do really enjoy the P3. Performance, but also the fact that it has a display which provide meaningful and useful feedback as I do tow often. Connection debugging, parameters, etc. Enough that I kept it when I re-mounted it in the ashtray.

To answer your question, I didn't completely gut and cut the backend of the tray. Largely a hole to passthrough the plug and wire. But there are mechanisms behind there that interfered with the wire that I did have to cut. As modified, I could probably remove it, and put back in the ash tray and none would know the wiser to mods behind that.

RedArc to the right of the steering wheel.

I’m on the P3 bandwagon too. I had an issue with a intermittent short in the trailer brakes and kept getting a “short circuit, no brakes” message that I probably wouldn’t get with the Redarc. In addition, the P3 has performed perfectly with both my trailers and it’s easy to adjust the settings for either trailer. Mounted in front of my right shin.

I just order one of these for my other. Vehicles will try it on the 200

Tekonsha Prodigy® RF Trailer Brake Controller, Proportional, 1 to 3 Axles

The Redarc won't give you a printed message, but when this happens it flashes every color imaginable. Ask me how I know...

Reese towpower IQ to the right of steering wheel. I tried a bunch of locations and this felt most natural to reach. It is pretty well obscured by the wheel.
Main unit on a 90 bracket above the dead pedal behind the firewall grommet.

I mounted mine in LX570 's factory Tekonsha P3 holder. I'm under the impression that it should be mounted parallel to the direction of travel, and horizontal with the ground, so there aren't a ton of great spots with control access.

I'm considering removing the little door all together and making an extra switch bank and a more permanent P3 holder. I use the P3 with my motorhome also, so it has to be removable.

Would be nice if someone was able to 3D print one to replace that door. I hate jamming mine in there when I use it.

Agreed...I've been thinking the same thing...That little hatch does so little for me. It could be a good place for additional buttons and a dedicated P3 holder.

I’d love to get a 3d printed part. Could easily fit 8 to 12 switches in there.

This was fiddly and very custom just to get three switch locations. (5 total as two are doubles)
