When is a beasty 31M battery worth it?

FYI the Batteries Plus X2 group 31 battery is a drop in for the Slee tray. Requires a little work on the neg cable but that's it.

Great battery, worked it hard last weekend and was impressed.

I thought I would upload a few pictures of my new set up.

Nolan-what were you saying about the hundys not able to charge the Odyssey batteries?

Wow those are pricey. Any idea on actual performance yet?

Well, that was covered earlier. Read this and it seems plausable after my last trip.

In the past, even when driving most of the day my battery would need a jump start after a couple of days of camping and using my fridge.

First night. Fine. Second or more. It would not start.

Also if I let my truck sit the Odyssey would be dead.

Battery checked out good. It's just not getting fully charged by the 100 system.

I switched to a Duracell Series 31 AGM before my last big trip. The battery did great. I killed it hard the last night using an electric heater. It charged up fine.

I think it's an Odysey specific problem

Slee lists an Interstate now as their preferred Series 31

Performance was great. Was on the same trip referenced above when it was a week old. Never once got below 13v, and had fridge, lights, inverter, etc, running off it full time. So far so good.

As an additional data point into the discussion I've been running a Sears DH Group 31 for 4 years now without any issues (knock on wood.)

Apologies if I missed this in the earlier discussion: I wonder if there are differences in people's experiences due different alternators. My understanding is that the later model cruisers have a higher capacity alternator vs. the earlier ones (e.g., 130amps on '06 vs 100amps on '99).

Mine is an '06.

Btw, is the Odysssey 31M-PC2150 the only "full size" alternative to the Searsh DH group 31 AGM? (similar capacities....)

My 06 failed to charge two different diehards. Or at least I can say two different diehards failed while in my 06.

Most likely the latter. I returned mine today and the manager there told me that they had nothing but trouble with the Diehard Platinum batteries. I also heard him talking to his guys there and he said Sears will be closing some stores in our area soon.

has anyone tried a diehard advanced gold 31m? my DHP 31m is failing at 20 months.

Benc - did you replace with a 34 or 31?

@skivan - See Dennis/OregonLC's post earlier this thread - #87.

Awesome, my grp31 DHP marine is dying dying dead...

Bumping this to the top for any updates on Group 31 batteries with similar terminal placement. My OCD self left about 10mm of slack in my cable wiring, so anything other than a direct replacement is going to cause a good bit of extra wiring effort.

Well, looks like this thread died 16 months ago! Well, I'm going to resurrect it! One of my earlier posts in this thread was about the death of my Sears DHP group 31 battery, that I brought back to Sears and had it replaced with another new one. The Techs said that they are defective and are no longer carrying them and had sent them back to the manufacturer. Well, it's now dying a slow death. My dual battery management system alarm came on today saying the battery had low voltage. This battery was a replacement for my original DHP Group 31 and lasted 2 years, 2 months. So NOW, I need to find a permanent, reliable, replacement for the Group 31 that will fit with my Slee Group 31 bracket. On this thread, some have said that Odyssey makes a group 31 replacement that will fit with no mods. So, Mudders: Anyone use the Odyssey with the Slee group 31 bracket and is it a direct replacement that fits with no issue? Or something else that is better that also fits? Unfortunatly, I'm heading out on a weeklong offroad camp trip near Death Valley tomorrow a.m. and am pissed of the timing of my Group 31 dying. My secondary is a Sears DHP Group 34 that seems to be holding up. Argh... Anyhow, suggestions please!

I have a Northstar Group 31 that I chose after seeing several reviews and tests by high end car audio guys that really use power and it was top dog. I also have an Alternator Voltage Output Booster from HKB in Australia. Thus far it has been working perfectly but its only been about 6 months.

Unfortunately all the AGMs I've had don't last too long. I love the group 31 but they're hard to find locally especially if you're stranded. I've since switched to an H8 AGM which everyone seems to carry. It specs out at about 80% of the RC of a 31. Good enough for me.
