Hi everyone:

I know there's a Club meeting on Thursday, but I thought I'd get some of you to start thinking about this. Greg wants to shake down the PooVagon and he wasn't able to do it last week. So, I've got Friday off and we've decided we're going to go. My friend Aaron (Hamberger) is going to come with us in his 4runner.

Greg doesn't want to do anything too crazy, and I don't want to break anything either. So, something that's fun but not as hard as Canopener or 6 feet under. Somewhere relatively closeby, and hopefully if the weather is good somewhere that has a view where we can break out the BBQ for lunch.

Who wants to come? Who's got ideas? Eagle Ridge has been suggested...any others?

I might be in if my boss doesn't need me to work, but last I heard, Eagle Ridge was closed.
Cheers,
Deny

oh ya, cannoppener is not that tough, especially if you take all the bypasses, and if your in a fully locked up truck on 35's, piece of cake. Martin made it up in a cruiser on 31s and a rear locker. I'm not suggesting this as a shakedown run, I am just saying, the name is sometimes more intimidating than the actual trail.

What is the log they are talking about here: http://bb.bc4x4.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67458&pagenumber=2 Or are they talking about 6' under? Just read it again, and it sounds like 6' under is with the log.

Is the Rolly Lake Loop closed, or the powerlines in that area?

Back to work on light duties next week, and Petra has the BJ74, so I can no afford to be down with Das Poo Vagon if at all possible. The BJ42 is un-insured, and has a bad leaky rear main...

Any and all ideas welcome...

Both the cannoppener and 6' under have a log obstacle, but the log on the cannoppener is on the lower section that we have not ever tried, cause it is insane! only really built trucks should try, and they probably still would need to winch up. The log on 6' under is on the trail, and we saw a fully locked suzuki have to winch up, while two big jeeps just drove over.
Rolly lake loop was dug up real bad (by the logging company)last we were there in the summer. Unless someone did some major road building around the dug out area, there is no way anyone can pass through. And there were plans to build a fence by the illegal road access to keep people out from under the powerlines. However we got in through the gate on Kathy cresent that you can get the key for.
A suggestion for and easy shakedown run could be up around Stave, both west side or east side (sylvester). Norrish doesn't have too many options now that the main road past the cannoppener is washed out unless you want the tougher stuff. Chehalis is OK, but not much trail stuff. West Harrison has a lot of options, as does Chilliwack.
There's Just so much to choose from!
Cheers,
Deny

I want friday off

Is there a log at the beginning of Can Openner now Deny? We did start at the beginning last year when I had by BJ74 there, or not?

Ya, lots of options. Be nice to find something reasonable, that has bypass's for those who do not feel like it.

We did start at the "beggining". However, that ditch that you drive up which is in fact the cannoppener, has washed out a bunch of sediments and I think a few logs that used to stabilize the road. And there are a few crazy people (no names (Dan!)) that drive up from the bottom road and up the logs and sediments, between the trees before you actually get to the "begginning" of the cannoppener.
Anyway, I am out for a Friday run, as I just got word of an interview for a summer job this friday. I am still interested in a Sunday run thou.
Cheers,
Deny

Greg, et al who are interested:

I was thinking we'll meet for breakfast at the ABC restaurant on Clearbrook Road (the one attached to that hotel) next to the Chevron gas station beside the freeway by 9AM. We'll leave Abbotsford by 10AM.

I was thinking that Sunrise Lake and surrounding area would be an option. I'm bringing my small barbeque and I think Aaron is also bringing his. We could maybe have lunch at Sunrise and be back in town around 5 or 6PM. What do you think?

Perfect...

ditto!

It probably will be raining so we should have lunch and build a fire at the Hale Creek Shelter.

Awesome day...thanks folks! Das Poo Vagon worked wonderfully, other then starting to rip a little metal on the front from wheel rubbage on compression (I did not think this was going to be possible with the lift it has...so trimming will be in order before the next trip out), and the death wobble coming home when passing over the tracks in Matsqui village (again, I have no idea why and have to read up, as it is positive caster, OTT steering from the pitman arm to the custom flatsteer arms, new TRE's, and a pissy little Munro steering damper).

I was quite impressed with the Marks under/under gears. 3-1 low, with the 4:11's and 35's is very nice. Felt stable on the logging road run into the trail, and rides great!. It actually flex's, the ozzy lockers front and rear worked flawless, and it was a great day with some great company.

Yeah, Greg, Hamberger...awesome day to be out. Weather was perfect, and we had some fun.

Finally know where that turnoff to Sunrise Lake is at. The V-Rock getting to the lake was a lot of fun. No body damage...only managed to bend one of my running boards and scuff one of my hubs on the rocks. Having three locked trucks made short work of pretty much any obstacle. Here's some pics.

Way too easy for Greg's beast. He did get the front right wheel WAAAY up in the air, but I was too much of in a hurry to get out of the way to avoid getting run over to get a shot. :D

Thanks for a great time wheeling, guys. It was also Sarah's first time wheeling, and she really enjoyed herself as well. When are we going next? :D

Cheers.

The steep trail up from Hale creek was fun too! No pics though.

Nice pics guys! Just came back from dinner at the Jolly Coachman, the wife and I were talking about a camping trip up to Sunrise for May long weekend. Hopefully the 40 will be ready by then, but if not..perhaps time to add some character to the taco

cya guys soon.

Did it do it the whole way home from the tracks ? I know my truck gets the death wobble gonin on certain roads, now it dont bother me, diesel peddle dont even leave the floor cause its always the road givin me that problem

Morning Jim.

Tracked fine after...and no indications of problems. I've crossed over those tracks a few times the last few weeks, and it's not happened. Must have hit it just right, or the run loosened something. Today I will be going through it all, as well as rotating the tires.
