What did you guys get up there, 4 inches?

Maybe 6 here at the house. It's a good bit. More than enough to get into my shoes and make my socks wet when I got home last night.

Looks like clear skies though now, it'll probably all melt now.

I'm willing to let our guest pick. mountain snow wheeling may not be as common for flatlanders as you'd think.
I am missing the nyday run, so snow would be my choice. but again, when our guest gets to the thread, he can pick.:D

just heard from Beo that Art and Myra are still planning to hit town late on the 2nd and wheel the 3rd.

i am game for either. no strong preference for me really.

Maybe one more. I don't have chains yet though. I will check back again to see what is happening.

I just talked to Art (pencilpusher). He is willing to do either or both runs. apparently, he has never 4 wheeled in the snow. they have no mountains near them and they have only hiked in mountains in California. so both scenarios are equally viable (Jemez/Puerco). He has his wife and nephew with him. if we do Jemez, my wife is willing to go, but she won't do puerco(not that we should base it around her:D).
Greg, are you available/willing to take them out Monday to the Puerco? He mentioned the possibility of doing both, but I work Monday and you'd be closer to town if something happened with fewer vehicles along. Just a thought. anyone else able to do a Monday Puerco run?

I offered to let them stay with me, so they'd be in town for being closer to meeting points. sorry siren. :D

anyone want to do another meet and greet at my house saturday evening? say 6-9? we can test out my new keezer! :grinpimp: I'll start a new thread for that.

Yeah I can do Monday in the Puerco. All my snow wheeling equipment is stored in a place where I can't access it right now so I'm limited to the lowlands.

sweet Greg, thanks! He'll be very happy to hear that.

Greg, would you be going up for the snow run on Sun too (without the gear)? Reason I ask is because my brother may want to go. I personally would perfer the Puerco if we don't have the gear for the snow with the rigs going out. I would guess at least a winch (for a snow run) in front and one in back of the group just in case. I can only make it on Sun, so I can not be there on Mon. Who all are going?

...I am giddy with the excitement of putting the plow on and shoving some of it around! Heck, I might even go plow Ash's drive for him!...
You are always welcome to shove snow outta my driveway. You might even pick up that Hi-Lift mount someday! ;)

Only took me 25min to shovel enough of the 2' snowfall to clear my deck, sidewalk, make a path to both rigs, and create 2 dober 'relief' zones.

When I got home this morning it was cool to see where the 60s diff had made it's own path in the snow...

What?? did you offer them running water? :hillbilly: And elevated sleeping areas w/no dog hair. :princess:
I can't compete w/that!!

Greg can chime in on his situation, but he may be talking about sleeping bag, snow boots, etc. chains maybe.

I say, as long as your brother is prepared with tow points on the vehicle, and winter gear to stay warm and eat if we are stuck overnight in an emergency situation, he should be good. tow strap, cb, shovel, chains, etc. are all good to have, but the these can be worked around.

Nah, SNOTEL is reporting 1.5 feet to pushing 3 feet (you can at least double that in drifts). Experience has taught me that anything above a foot turns into a 2 hours to go 200 yds sorta thing. Plus the lower site is reporting a temp right now of just a tick under zero - too cold for my old bones.

Shawn, kinda my point. If it was a Friday or Saturday, no problem, but I have to work on Monday. To go back up the next day for a rescue would be a hassle.

Yes, all of the above and more (MREs, tarp, powder pants...)

MREs? what is that? (nevermind) I have tarps, and snow boarding pants if needed.

You've made anyone who's been in the military in the last 20 years chuckle. MRE = Meals Ready to Eat, basically your K and C rations for the modern world. I "almost" always have them in an ammo box secured in the back of the 60, but was using the truck to haul some stuff and never put it back in before I lost easy access to my storage. My "real" first aid kit is in there as well as jumper cables.

What can I say, I was a Boy Scout: Be Prepared

Sounds like a good thread: Winter Preps. Enuf reason to make it local? Or should we refer folks to the general forum and search function?

I ask b/c I almost moved my kit outta my rig a few days ago: thought I needed the room for other stuff. Turns out I didn't, and, in hindsight, I'm glad.

Any thoughts? Ayes/Nays? Don't hafta be me starting the thread.

chances are low that we would get that far over our heads with near stock vehicles. as Greg said, it's just a "being prepared" thing. when you guys start getting stuck, I "should" be able to maneuver pretty well still in the FJ40. with chains on those 40" Iroks, I can get through some major snow.
I don't want to pick a trail that is too hard for us to have fun. I was thinking west side Jemez where snow is lesser.
