Wheel locks / lug nuts

Just went to get tires installed yesterday and find out that the key for the wheel locks is stripped. I want to replace each wheel lock with a lug nut so I won't have to worry about the key. I've got a Lexus LX 450 with stock wheels - are '96 Land Cruiser lug nuts the same?

Also, is there a way I can remove the wheel locks without the key? The Lexus dealer has a master key but want $100 to do this.

The lugs are the same as cruisers with alloy wheels .

As for getting the lugs off most tire shops around here have a locking lug socket that will screw the lug up but will get it off. It looks like a socket that fits a impact gun but it has a thread that is cut so as you try to loosen the lug it digs in like a cork screw but on the outside of the lug

Is this stripping of the locking lug nuts a common problem? anybody else see this?

Right now I'm using locking lug nuts with my steelies and MTRs but they make me nervous. I'm thinking getting some the regular lug nuts on my next order from Dan.

I have read several have had this problem, I suspect that the keys cannot withstand the abuse of "rattle gun it unitl is stalls" tire jockeys

several have also lost the key or bought a vehicle without the key, I had a scare and could not find mine for several hours, ordered 4 standard lugnuts shortly after,

I have not read of anyone haveing thier 80's wheels stolen, in a age of 24" bling with low pro tires 16" OEM wheels with dirty off road tires are not that valuable, at work I park in very high security parking lot and at home my nieghborhood has very no teenagers and a matching crime rate so I ditched the locks,

if your 80 spends a lot of time at risk you will have to make the call

That's cool. Never seen that tool.

You can try using the closest 12 point undersized socket and just tap it onto the wheel lock with a hammer. This works some of the time.

I'm not sure what the OEM wheel lock looks like. Some locks have collars that spin to avoid this type of removal.
 
I have never had any functional issues with my locking lug nuts. The set is 11 years old and works perfectly. I imagine that is partly because my vehicle has NEVER had a rattle-gun on ANY of the lug nuts. I've never broken a stud either.
 
Went to the Yota dealer near my home and picked up four lug nuts (part # 90942-01077). They looked the same as the ones on my LX 450 - except the new ones were black and shiny :D. The tire shop used a tool like the one Koffer posted to remove the wheel locks. Long story short... I've spent over 8 hours of my time running around or waiting trying to get the wheel locks off and new tires mounted (Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos 285/75/16). Finally done... no more wheel locks for me!
