Hello Muders,

I need some help on picking a wheel size. Method as a 17x8.5 with 0MM/4.75 back spacing, which I understand is factory for our 80's. However they also have a 17x9 with -38mm/3.5 backspacing. Does this pushing the wheel out further or pull it in? Which offsets preferable?

I will be running a Slee 4" lift with King Shocks. As for tires, I'm thinking BFG KM3's 37x12.5R17. Duggy's garage in Houston seems to have good results with the 12.5 vs 13.5 wide tires on small lifts.

Lastly I'm looking at the Method 105 Beadlocks. However from searching mud, I'm seeing mixed reviews on running bedrocks on a street truck. In which case I could use run the Method NV's. The truck will be driven a few times a week, and a trail/weekend camping rig.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

a good way to sort out options.... but be sure to factor that offset also affects scrub radius, and that could cause rubbing on turning on the body mount or front fender / control arm etc....

also many tires can vary alot even at the same spec..... and even within a single tire model, it can vary - my Toyo AT2 on the Wagon at 305 width actually measured 13.3 " inches wide vs. the same tire in a 35/12.5 that was only 12.2.... not even Toyo can explain it....

Have you considered the SCS setup ? they're perfect dialed for our 80's

Incorrect. Factory backspace is 4.5 inches. I would not go any further in than that.

If you will run 37’s, go with the 3.5 back spaced 9” a wheel. I run 37x12.5 trXUs which have a slightly narrower tread area than most 12.5’s and I had to use a 1” wheel spacer with stock 8” wheels in order to maintain decent up travel keeping the tires farther from the inner wheel wells and also to retain turning radius because the tires would otherwise contact the front control arms.

Check the center bore of those before you buy them. They need to clear the FF rear hub.

Thanks its 106.5mm so I believe it will fit fine. If not, a little machining will solve it.

The bore may be tapered. I have seen that on aftermarket wheels.

Hopefully not. I know a guy running an older set without issue and the little I spoke with them about the wheels they made me feel better about it. Either way, I will post back with how they fit.

Ok, so I'm going 17x9 with 3.5 backspacing. Can I run a 37x13.5R17 or should I stick with a 37x12.5R17?

The wider you go, the more likely the tires will rub someplace. If you don't mind cut-to-fit, no problem.

Quick question as it’s relevent...

Is there any factory wheels from other Toyota’s that work for an 80 series? (In Australia)

I’ve noticed there are a bunch of late model Hiluxes that run the same pcd and bore size although the offsets do vary. Just wondering if there’s a common wheel to swap in...

Cheers

No cut to fit here sir. This rig is gonna be built right.
How is cutting wrong? Doesn't depend on what you are trying to achieve and how much you are willing to spend? Although I have not cut my rig, I have on my 40. Cutting isn't "wrong", it is just something you are not willing to do.

I never said it was wrong. I just choose to size thing appropriately so I don’t cut up my 80. It’s just how I want to build it.

Totally understood. Again, I haven't cut my 80 either. But then again, I'm only on 35's.

315/75/16 on stock-dimensioned wheels is about as big as you can go without a major lift and/or body trimming.

I would do 37 12.5 & infact probably think twice about doing 37s if you don't want to cut otherwise the question is how much of uptravel do you want? You will need a minimum of 2.5" bump stops on all Corners to prevent 37's from hitting the fenders.

Slee bolt on 4”, and king shocks. Haven’t thought about adding bumps other than what Slee includes in the kit. Thoughts?
