We just picked up an 08 a few days ago and I'm still learning - just learned it's a sport package yesterday. I haven't spent much time up close with a GX until now...

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out what's up with the wheels. They look like they were covered in brake dust and someone sprayed cleaner on and let it run. But they're clean. And smooth. Like they've been clear-coated like this.

Anybody seen this before?

My chrome looked foggy like that right before it started peeling

If it were me, I'd try some cleaner wax first (like Klasse). It cleaned up some stains on my old wheels.

Failing that, maybe some rubbing alcohol or another light solvent like WD40.

Well that's not encouraging. But I haven't seen any peeling at all.

Maybe I'm looking at it backward and someone used a cleaner that etched the chrome and that's what caused the streaks... I don't know. It's weird that it's totally smooth. And all 4 wheels. But it's not done well enough that it looks like it was intentional. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it.

I think that's the next plan of action. Thanks.

They are clear coated, and that looks like someone used a chemical at some point and etched the clear coat.

I found another set of GX wheels locally for $100. So I'm thinking about grabbing those, and getting them blasted and powdered for whenever it's time for new tires.
