I've seen a few people calling the BF Goodrich Rugged Trail A/T a POS. I haven't seen anyone saying it is very good. What's the story?

Is it good on dry roads
Wet roads
gravel
off road
rocks
snow
ice
power steer
hard to balance
wears well
name too long
easily punctured
too hard
too soft
good on heep / bad on LC (or v/vs)
looks bad

Anyone?

As anyone would say it depends on what you want to do... that being said I had these on a Tacoma and these are a stock street tire nothing more... I would not put them on anything that was going to see some real off road.. they are a good tire for street with little off road. more over they dont look that nice

They are a mediocre tire at best. I ran them on my wife's 03 explorer and they were fine for on-road, but there are much better choices for a 100.

I thought they redesigned this tire since 2003.
I recently saw a review on the tire in Toyota 4wd and they seemed to like them on a Taco for mild mild wheeling.

In my mind these are in between a BFG AT and a Michelin and you might as well pick one of those two instead b/c you get a much better tire either way.

I think the Rugged Trail is being phased out and replaced by the Rugged Terrain which is a much better looking tire although I don't know if it will be any better off road or not.

...and there's the rub. They aren't really great at anything, more of a middle-of-the-road tire that does OK for most stuff on the road. There are other tires out there that do everything better, IMO.

07 is when I bought them for the expo, then we sold it in 08. They did fine, don't get me wrong...just nothing about them stood out as a real advantage over other tires.

The new tire is really selling well. It looks more rugged but I don't think I would wheel with it.

Go KO A/T or a Nitto Terra Grappler

Really bad traction in mud and sand....learned that from my friend getting his F-150 stuck twice within an hour. Old Cooper H/T tires were having better traction than them on the Silverado that pulled him out...

X2, they are being replaced cause they kinda suck. They were about as noisy as the AT, without the off road performance.

My uncle has these on his xterra and they have never impressed me on or off road.

The new Rugged Terrain (not trail) is supposed to be pretty good from what i have heard so far.

IMO rank tires like so, starting with most off road capable. BTW i will admit i am biased toward Michelin and BFG tires......huge fan of their products. Obviously you could swap in some other brands. Mainly you need to figure what you want to get out of your tires

BFG Krawler
BFG KM2
Original BFG MT
BFG AT
BFG Rugged Terrain (thats the new one)
Michelin LTX AT2 (they are better than you wold expect)
Michelin LTX MS

If Wal-Mart carries them they must be great... Don't you shop for all your Cruiser accessories at Wally World? Someone should rock these with a Wal-Mart Built sticker...

The Rugged Trails came stock on my Tacoma and are hands down the worst "offroad" tire I've ever owned. They clog if you look at them wrong. They spin on wet asphalt if you look at them wrong. The tread life is abysmal and they have excessive road noise compared to the street tire they have the grip level of.

To be honest I think the LTX could hang with them offroad; they are that bad. At least the LTX gives exceptional road/wet traction!

BFG AT's or Cooper ST's or Revo's will all provide superior off road experiences with better longevity.

Thanks all.
That kinda sums it up: Not good at anything, but they are still tires:doh:

I just researched at every AT tire I could, Always ran BFG ATs for years on all my trucks but feel they are now becoming a outdated tire. I ended up choosing Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10s and am glad I did, they ride and handle great on road. So far i have had them in rain and light snow and they feel like they grip great in wet conditions. I'm sure they will do well in the deep snow too, they are quite aggressive with a deep tread and square shoulder. I went with a 285/75/16 and was surprised when I mounted them on my L-C because they are more aggressive and meaty looking in person than the online pics do them justice. JMO
