Getting ready for my 1st oil change,, ordered a filter through Toyotapartsdeal ,, item # checks out #90915-YZZD3 but this is smaller filter than Iam used to,,, & truck currently has a full size fram filter on it,, this thing is 3”dia 4” long
Threads look the same,,
Is base able to take smaller & bigger dia?
If it fits ,, the only issue I guess would b how effective,, & oil quantity with refill

Iots of threads on this. But its still an oil filter and it still works well. Believe someone cut the small and big filters open and found the same amount of element inside.

On a side note I've pondered the idea of swapping in a remote filter housing that uses the paper element filters instead of the spin on cartridge.

Yes - a YZZD3 will fit and work. It's generally used on 3rd gen 4Runners, but fits old Camrys, Highlanders, etc. I use YZZD3s on virtually all my Toyotas. Since an FJ60/2 holds a lot of oil, you're not losing much capacity using a small filter, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Since the smaller filter element inside the small oil canister has THE SAME surface area of the larger filters because its more efficiently designed, the only benefit of the bigger filter housing is looks. On the downside, the bigger filter housing takes longer to fill since it holds more oil and if the anti-drainback valve leaks, the engine runs without oil longer at startup because it has to fill the bigger housing first.

WiX makes an even bigger filter (1515?) and there was a cruiser engine here on this forum that got destroyed from using those filters for the reason stated above: oil starvation at startup due to leaking anti-drainback valve. The bigger canister exacerbated the problem.
