what's the deepest water you have taken your 100

how do you extend a dif fbreather roof high. I have never see this.
I wasn't speaking in reference to the above video. I was answering his question about submerging the driveline.

I would never intentionally sink my cruiser, so diff breathers to the engine bay will suffice. Though if you need them higher, routing them up inside a pillar might work.

I have crossed rivers in south america and Russia that were 5' and covered the dash . Still have one 80 I have submerged many times. Now in SA there are more and more barges. But they don't like it when a heavy cruiser comes pulling up. The fee goes up fast.

Some have route the 80's diff breather into the cabin.

DirtDawg: Thanks for the rational as I always wondered about the underlying reason.

A wild (probably deserves to go to the dumb bin) question. In undersea applications of sealed hydraulic systems, the go to solution to prevent water intrusion is to have an accumulator (spring on resevoir) provide slight positive pressure that water can't overcome.

'course there are highly engineered seal sytems to handle this. Probably would take/add big $$$ to our 100 design.

The 100 is not a submarine. If you get water in the dash you will find out very quickly.

Hey ya'll! Watch this!

Just goofing off

I have seen Russian guys cross rivers with water up to the windows. Couldn't believe it. They will try crazy s***....balls to the wall.
One route we took had water 6 feet deep in two river crossings.
I was in an 80

LOL...good vid. Yeah the heater intake I have heard mentioned before. I saw an unreal youtube vid and the guy designed a diesel and crossed a 12' deep pond. He was using scuba tanks.....can't remember the other details. I am trying to find that video. It was crazy.

Was it the dirt every day episode with the cummins jeep that you're thinking of?

Hah...yeah that is it...LOL

Found the youtube video I reference in another thread of the forum. I gotta say, I'm impressed, though I would need a little more "ignorance is bliss" to pull this off.

The guy in video who is showing how to extend the breather tube - I think he is talking about the tube where water condensation from the AC will drip out of the cabin. In stock form, water will be dripping into the sway bar mount. I added some tube so it will not drip into the sway bar and cause rust.

I do not have access to the LC right now, but I am pretty sure about this. If this is the case, he should not extend this tube up, because instead of dripping, the condensation will just fill up the tube and he will have water in the cabin.

Yah, seems like it would be easier to just install a ball-valve you can close when doing deeper water crossings.
