You're not going to be able to sell it for more than you've put into it, if at all possible keep it and drive it for the next 20 years. Just my $.02

Not sure how that was vomit. I think those are all valid points.
He sounds like an angry man who had a bad day at work. The young man is trying to buy a house for his family. He was asking If we thought the work done on his rig could hekp with value. Also no rust and low miles, If there are no suprizes I think It could. He asked for help and he needed hope.

One day really soon people are going to be bitching and moaning about how 80 series trucks with over 100K are going for $20-30K.

Trucks with 51K miles and in pristine condition will be going for their original sale prices in the 1990's... possibly more.

We are all driving collectible vehicles whether one wants to admit it or not.

It is worth what someone will pay for it. The market will tell you.

A rebuilt motor with a 1 year warranty in Las Vegas is worth zero $ to me in Iowa (or anywhere other than Vegas).

Put it on eBay and you will find out what it is worth. There is no accurate "blue book" for 80s (or Land Cruisers). I've seen people pay $5k for rusted out 80s. I've seen people (and done so personally) purchase clean, rust free 80s for $1000. Depends on how informed the buyer and seller both are.

Good luck.

I ran my own production business for 25 years, we had a name for that but I will put It politely, Taking advantage of people. Joey said In a post about 3 weeks ago, If an 80 moves under Its owm power Its worth 2500. I know that as well, So I wouldm"t do It, I would consider It a Dishonest Deal.

1. Where is the fan shroud, hood, bottom plate under the rad, etc.? Put that stuff back.
Valid point no .1. Its sitting In the shop with no hood no T/B , being worked on. Its finished now with 300 mi. on the rebuild. DUH !!
2. An 80 is not a rare sports car that demands a lot of money. A 40, maybe to a point, but not an 80.
Valid point no. 2 No Comment ! LOL !
3, 4, 5....Everyone On Mud . These valid points Insulted Mud members !!!!!!!!
No. 6 Thats a valid point. But If people stoped asking whats It worth we wouldnt here the 1000. story
7. I would be willing to bet that if you're asking here and stalling yourself from just listing the rig, you probably don't want to sell it, so I would look for another way to come up with the cash you're looking for.
Point no 7, We get a Psysic reading telling us the OP really didn't want to know what his rig was worth ,he was using mud to stall for time so he did not have to sell It. The whole tirade Is Invalid.

One day...

If you think his 80 is worth it then you buy it.

There are a thousand stories of guys putting $15-20k in to their Land Cruiser and not getting half that back. That can be said about virtually every vehicle.

I've owned 18 Land Cruisers. I've watched the market as well. I see 80s listed that never sell for what they are asking. I see 40s and 60s as well. Overvaluing ones vehicle and unrealistic expectations.

If I'm looking at his vehicle I'm asking "What is the real reason for selling an 80 that just had the motor rebuilt 300 miles ago?!" I don't buy the house story. If you can afford to throw $7-8 in to a 2nd or 3rd vehicle then I'm pretty confident it isn't making a difference on financing a house.

Something else is up. I've seen enough 80s for sale to make me skeptical.

And the 132k Miles means squat to me. The motor blew.

So let me get this straight. If someone is selling an 80 for less than $2500 that moves under its own power you wouldn't buy it because you would consider it a "dishonest deal"?!?! GET THE F$&# OUTTA HERE! You are crazy. I'm done.

I bought it because it was a good deal and the guy I bought it from was getting quotes of 7000 plus to get the motor rebuilt and installed.
It ran when I bought it as I test drove it. I knew that they are worth money and very valuable.
I am the type of person that if I'm planning on selling something you rebuild you should do it immediately after you do the big repairs. So the new owner gets to enjoy it.
I drove it 300 miles so I knew when the new owner picks it up a hose clamp is not lose or a wire comes off. Also that a check engine light doesn't come on for something stupid.

Just like building a classic muscle car you want to sell that thing with a fresh interior fresh paint and new motor. Not one that has been driven on and washed and the engine gets dusty from driving it and doing burnouts throwing rocks at the quarter panel.

If I keep it and then sell it I know I will want to take it on trails and camping and ........

So I thought if I can make money with it fresh and all the receipts why not.

Good luck

Personally, there are some mods that I considered very valuable when I bought my 100 and if I were in the market I would definitely look for as I think all older 80s will need these eventually and they cost $$$. So let me add just the "mods" I have done to my beautiful 80 that I know everyone is in for eventually:

1) New factory birfields and a recent front end job
2) New bearings in the diffs
3) Rebuilt steering box
4) New radiator

I did all of those before they failed. Mine has 176k. But I take it back into Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, ... hours from pavement. I love it and want it to keep serving me.

Mods I think are worthwhile as I think all Mud types would value:

5) Sliders
6) Bumpers
7) Lifts

So if you're in the market, don't delude yourself into thinking you won't be seeing these things draining your back account and they should add value. You're simply not going to escape 1-4 and I'd argue if you're this into it, 5-7 as well.

8) New Leather

And I have been around long enough to see 60/62s appreciate significantly. 80s are doing the same thing. So if you find one that is straight, rust free, and has been consciously maintained with OEM parts, hell yes, the mods are worth money. A lot.

Check Craigslist Eugene Oregon. Anywhere from 5-11.5k lol. We're proud of our cruisers here apparently. I should have no problem getting 15k out of mine Lol. But seriously, I found one for $1200 in super sad shape, I mean it made my heart sink to see it in such shape. Went to meet the seller and told him I would still buy it as I had told him over the phone and he was like, oh...on your way over here I got some calls and and have other people interested in their way over. I said, I told you I had cash in hand and you said deal. That's a verbal contract, he tells me I still get first choice but the other guy will give him $3500 sight unseen, so I would have to match it. Needless to say someone else got it. I feel bad for the schmuck. I waited around and watched him sell it just to see if he was full of it, he wasn't. Moral of my rant is. Ask more than you're looking to get out of it, I'm sure you'll get what you want or possibly more. There are plenty of suckers with more money than common sense.

Correct me if im wrong famcruiser, i thought i saw a post on craigslist in Vegas looking for off road parts for this 80?
Sorry to hear you have to selling it!!!!!
