probablt going to replace my 60 series in the next year, or at least add to the collection.
what is the latest year that cloth seat were available?
any sugestions to what year to buy? i do moderate wheeling in the NJ pine barrens in the summer, so i dont want stupid plastic trim to come flying off, like my old jeep had.
thanks

I prefer the 97, of course (no reason other than it's newer). I guess they all (US models) have the plastic trim around the wheel wells but look around in this section and you'll see many have removed it by both active and passive means.

93-97 Are the years with the optional lockers. Cloth is not very common in these years. I think CDan had some more concrete numbers.

I believe most 91-92 FJ80's have cloth, there are some with port installed leather though.

If you're just going to do moderate wheeling, pick up an FJ80 (91-92). They're slower and get worse gas mileage, but the 3FE isn't nearly as fickle as the 1FZ. Plus they're cheaper, you can get a nice FJ80 for $4,000 or a bit less.

Or, you could find a locked FZJ80 (93-97) and just order cloth seats from cruiserparts like I plan on doing.

Oh yeah, check here too: - http://sleeoffroad.com/newbie/newbie100.htm

Not sure what the LAST year was... but I test drove a 95 with cloth when I was looking for mine. I think that was the ONLY 95-97 with cloth that I have ever seen though, so you may end up having to go older if colth is a priority.

I believe that there were a lot of cloth 94s that were built very late in 94. I've got a cloth 94 that was built in December of 94, and I remember seeing quite a few others when I was LC shopping in early 95.

94 is also the last year before airbags, and I've always felt better off-road because I didnt have to worry about explosives going off in my face.

I went with a '95+ because I didn't want to worry about not having a nice airbag exploding in front of my face (and my wife's) in an road accident. Not sure how you'd manage to set the airbags off while wheeling, but if you did enough damage to set them off my guess is you'd want 'em.

I agree and have never heard of a single case where an FZJ80 air bag went off (or or off-road) when it shouldn't have. But I'm still looking for a case if anyone knows of one. :D Hell, I'll take a case of ANY Toyota. I'll even take a substantiated example of any decent quality vehicle deploying a bag off-road when it should not have deployed the air bag. I've been asking for over 5 years so things are getting desperate. :D

Also, if you want cloth then just put a set of cloth covers over the leather. It's a waste of time trying to find one without it and you'll very likely pass on an excellent FZJ80 trying to find that needle in a haystack without leather. The cloth covers are excellent quality and cheap.

I have a 1995 with cloth.. I would stick with a 95-97 as I like the newer style dash and the fact that the AC is R-134 as it's just one less thing to worry about..
