hey guys
new here, been thinking of buying a 80 series cruiser, have 2 4runners now,97 & 91,wife drives 97,91 for my son turning 16 next year, looking for advice on which years are preferred.i do work in a dealer service dept, but not very many cruisers in the are.had a 91 in last week with 187k on the clock,it still seemed to run well.most of the ones ive looked at online are over 150k miles.have 94 chevy z71 wife says i would have to sell first, not sure if i want to give up my truck just yet-it does at least get about 16mpg hwy,80s dont look to get much mileage, but i do drive a demo-right now an 07 yaris-pretty cool little car-so its not like a cruiser would be a daily driver, help out with a little advice

Welcome.

There is a lot of info, start with the 80s guide posted in faq...

More to it than can be repeated here.

Great vehicles, several engine/options changes from 91-97, 150K no problemo, especially since you have access to parts and labor to do all the PM...

Kick your shoes off and stay awhile!

We initially bought the FJ80 with the 3FE 4.0L pushrod motor and recently purchased a FZJ80 with the same body but ABS and 4.5L OHC design. The FZJ80's extra horsies are nice and the ABS and airbags are a big plus if it ever comes to that. The FAQ will educate you on all the differences among the various years of 80s/LX450s (both brands are mechanically identical).

I recommend test driving an FZJ80 before purchasing an FJ80 so you can feel the difference yourself.

No DOUBT! I had both a 91 and 94 for awhile it was dangerous switching between the two because they seemed the same but go and stop were definitely different. I'd lean for a FZJ 93-97.
