I’m not an avid off-roader…

I’ve got a more power puller and a hilift with winch kit…works out to two, albeit slow, portable winches I can attach to my car or anyone else’s…

There are some scary off camber “slip off the side of the mountain” type scenarios where multiple portable winches can come in handy.

FWIW Warn Zeon Vs Zeon Platinum Winch Review [Updated 2021] - https://offroadersworld.com/warn-zeon-vs-zeon-platinum-winch/

I stumbled across an Australian brand of winches the other day, Sherpa. I could not find much on here about them. The web site says they are designed and built in Australia and they are priced competitively If you ignore Chinese winches. One down side is they are bright yellow, lol.

Anyone here have experience with these?

I read it. It seems like the majority of people are leaning towards Warn.

This : Smittybilt X2O 12K GEN2 Comp Series 12000lb Wireless Winch - 98512 - https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/smittybilt-x2o-12k-gen2-comp-series-12000lb-wireless-winch-98512/_/R-DSBP-98512

Works very well and it is #2 for me as I had the same winch in my old 100 series.

Synthetic line, wireless / wired controller and Ip68 rating (water sealed for crossings), Installation points matching other major manufacturers, so no problem with using it with Trail Tailor hidden winch mount or a steel bumper and at this price point - no brainer.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to hear something about the X2O. It seems like a pretty good package and you’re correct the price is right.

Warn 9.5XP with synthetic line.

Cheap winch gang checking in. $500 harbor freight Badland 12K w/factor55 fairlead. Lots of hard pulls, never failed me.

Generally, you get more paying more. The Badlands blows my mind. Especially watching Matt's Off-road and Fabrats channels. Matt uses the Badlands as part of a commercial outfit, which is way beyond consumer use. And it's held up and performs?!

There is the question whether without regular use, will it work when the need arises? It's still potentially cheaper buying 2x than some of the high end brands? I haven't heard of systemic failures and they seem to perform which is why they're gaining such a following.

Agree! The thought of putting a HF winch on any of my rigs turns my stomach, but I have not read anything bad about them, they just seem to work.

Really, a winch is a pretty simple device, perhaps the jeep jewelry factor drives pricing, I'd love to have a pricy USA made Warn, but they get more bad press than the "cheap chinese crap" winches. And Matt's Off Road and Fabrats are two channels I'm addicted to!

I think part of the bad press factor is if a Chinese winch fails everyone expected it to happen. If a warn does the same…
