i am heading to moab for the first time. running bfg AT 285s. any ideas of what psi i should run in the sandy areas around canyonlands?

ps. we will be on the white rim trail. sorry guys. my batt is going dead. trying to type fast.

Depends how you're loaded. Nothing wrong with 32-35psi...even down to 20 if you need to crawl, but BFGAT's have a 3 ply sidewall, which is stiffer than your usual 2 ply, so you may not want to overheat your sidewalls by going to low.

Many factors to consider here, but upper teen's work well for me in the rocks ( incl. Moab). 17 is usually my go-to on my 80 with BFG AT 's . If you are really heavy; extra fuel, water, bumpers, camping gear... 20'ish may be better for you. Of course don't spend much pavement time on a tire at those pressures.

on White Rim, I'd do 18psi with the Yokohama Geolander ATs on the LX - but I am never heavily loaded

it's not really all that sandy except for one area by the Green River - mostly it's graded dirt and small rock ledges

get yourself an MV-50 and air up at the end of dirt - there are no facilities for at least 20 miles either way - when I am in Moab for several days, I am ususally too lazy to air up very day, but then I make sure not to exceed ~45mph on asphalt

I spent a week in Moab at 12 psi twice. Just left it that way for the length of the vacation. Only aired up to goto arches sight seeing. Not even to go out to area BFE and back multiple times.

Drive from rubicon exit it Tahoe to fordyce at cysco at 12-15 a bunch. Anything below that is very apparent while driving and obviously unsafe.

Spend $200/275 on one of those viair, puma or power tanks and do whatever you want/need. But be prepared for all of your buddies to hit you up for air or to drain your CO2 :D

I head to Moab 3 to 4 times a year and have been running 15 psi from when I get to camp till the day we leave. Seems to work good at that psi though I'm tempted to go to the 10-12 psi range on the next outing.

it sounds like 15-17 psi for a lightly loaded 80 is what i am hearing. is that too low for bfg at? i jist picked up a mv50 so i can air up when done.
