so I just finished installing an aftermarket gage for my engine water temp. I'm wondering what temps 3b's like. Whats the low and the high you diesel cruiser guys want to see. Tommarow I will install the aftermarket oil preasure gage as mine nolonger works.

I have a mechanical gauge in BJ42. I can watch the thermostat open and close. First opening of the day is about 210, then it goes down to 180. 200 then seems to be the opening temp. Going down hill (very long grades of miles) I can watch it open and close (200 to 180, then 200 to 180 etc), while on the flat it stays constant till a hill comes up. When coming back from Black Hills a few years ago going through Montana with a headwind, it was HOT. My mechanical gauge would read around 190-200 most of the time at highway speed; did not matter the temp outside. On a few long hills it would go up to 210, and once or twice 215 before I backed out and went down a gear.

I do not recall if I put the winter or summer thermostat in, when I did the frame off (82C or 88C).

Hhmm, I was just thinking what I had bought for my 13BT from Toyota on Stephan's thread, and searching NAPA's site for the 3B listings revealed the stock thermostat rated at 180* F or 82* C, and a higher rated thermostat available at 192* F or 89* C. www.napaonline.com

The FSM lists both 82* C and 88* C thermostats, would make sense to me that Toyota would make both available in Canada. Like I said on the other thread, I'll check with JP tomorrow when they open. Cheers.

Stone,

I did check in US (American Toyota) and at HillTop Toyota in Salmon Arms, B.C. They list ONLY one thermostat - 88*C.

You're right, Alex...just checked with JP Toyota here and they said the same thing. What must have mixed me up was that I priced out a thermostat at one of the local parts stores here and I think the guy gave me a choice of two ratings, but I ended up buying the OEM one from Toyota anyway. So I guess I do have the 88*C model in my 13B-T. Cheers.
