Hey Team,

I am looking to buy a frig for the rear of my 80, and I'm wondering what size others who have refrigerators would suggest. I'm leaning toward the Dometic CFX-50W.

I'll be using it both for family and solo trips, though when we take family trips I'm willing to bring along my 28 liter Coleman Xtreme for drinks. We're also planning to buy a trailer and a GX460 in the next couple years, and we'll probably be using that combo on most family camping trips from there forward.

Can you tell me what size frig you use and how it works out for you? I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks!
Russell

Anyone? Bueller?

I have the dometic 95 in the back that I built a slide for. It has always worked well and If im going to use half the rear for almost any fridge may as well have gone big!

The 80-100qt ones are absolute monsters but if you plan to do anything longer than an extended weekend, you might struggle making a 50qt work. Sweet spot are the ~63 qt (or whatever the dometic equivalent size is), perfect fit in an 80 and makes sense for most uses.

I have the Dometic 65. Not the dual zone. I find this a real good size. I do food and drinks in the fridge. The nice thing about drinks in the fridge is that I don't have to have them all in the fridge. As I use them, I can replace them with warm ones. Really nice for a trip that lasts more than a few days.

If it’s just for food the 50qt can hold plenty. Grab a cardboard box or similarly sized cooler and pack it up to get an idea of the capacity. Also the footprint of a few models are the same, just a matter of height. If you go with the Dometic report back on the results. The design along with import records show that they’re manufactured by the same source as the ARB. It’s also obvious when they both release updated designs at the same time. In hindsight I would have purchased the Dometic due to the side hinged lid rather than the ARB end hinge.

I have the ARB 63qt. I would rather have more space than less if I need it.
It can fill up real fast.

Ive got a 63 qt ARB. Perfect size. I believe the bigger ones are just taller.

I'm running an Indel b 50qt. We don't normally put drinks in it when camping so for just food storage it is quite adequate for just the wife and I.

I have the CFX-40 by Dometic in my cruiser. Because I also sleep in my truck, I needed to compromise a bit on size. I do travel solo mostly, and have never encountered a space problem with the 40. I also regularly go on extended trips of 30-days or more.

However, I do wish I had a dual zone capability that the bigger series come with. I also think I would prefer the side hinge opening on the bigger fridge models as well.

No matter what you decide, a fridge makes a huge difference in convenience on long trips. Be sure to factor in the fact that your usable space is much more efficient because you won’t have to make room for 20 pounds of ice.
