Is there a certain size/ series battery I need for my 83 BJ42 with stock trays? any certain CCA? I will have a dual battery setup now and have the dual luna charging/ monitor system but dont know what would be the best heavy duty kind of battery?

You can put what you are able to pay. The cheapest batterie is better now then the best one 20 year ago. I put 1 industrial batterie and modifie my tray with vise grip to enlarge the tray. My second batterie is a mastercraft because the batterie tray is more in front and the hood can't close properly with the big industrial one. I'm in 24 volts and never have problem with 2 different kind of batterie in same time. Thinks about what's your need's... me I need to start a Diesel at -40 in winter... if you're at sun 12 monts a year... 30 degree celcius... maybe a cheaper setup will be as efficient as mine.

I'd go with as high a CCA as will fit. It takes alot of amps to crank a diesel.

Does the Luna charging system allow the secondary battery to contribute to starting? If it does then the cca range of a single battery isn't as important. If only one battery supplies the current for starting then you'll need a higher CCA.

If the vehicle sees use off road then you might want to consider two deep cycle batteries. High CCA typically implies thinner plates. Thin plates can handle the vibration on a paved road but they aren't good for serious off-road use. (Imagine driving on 20 miles of washboard in Utah.) I use the cheap marine deep cycle/cranking batteries from WalMart in my dual battery, 12v BJ 42. I've had them in for a year and have done many hundreds of miles in the dirt. Haven't had a single problem with them yet.

I do put all of my vehicles on a Battery Tender from once every few months for a few days. I think this helps longevity more than anything.

Thanks fellas, so what is the deal with the group thing, is that just size category? 27 is the size I need
