Thanks. I am assuming you used a modified stock arm? It won't work for me running leafs... I have a set of trail gear arms that I am going to use.

Yeah, all you need to do is add a plate on top of the stocker & a gusset between & drill & tap. Doesn't matter what suspension you have it'll work fine w/ leafs too.

It would work fine with leafs if the leaf wasn't in the way of where the tie rod would be positioned.

Isotel and Flyinglow

I am developing a case of death wobble and I wonder if it is my 1 ton TREs. Was it the same TRE that failed twice? Are you seeing failures just on the drag link?

Anyone else have problems with 1 ton TREs?

LC - I didn't see the boots for heims on the Baker page. Any more info on the boots or is a call in item?

(edit) Never mind... http://www.bakerprecision.com/rodacc.htm

Thanks,

Andy

I'm using These 3/4" teflon jobbies from Ballistic.. XM-12 3/4" CrMo rod end w/ kevlar liner

They've been holding up well, though I try to stay the hell out of the mud, and don't street drive the rig much at all.

Thanks Rich, I have found out that those are the ones available from the race shop, they are rated at 28000 lbs. I will definately be going with them.

XM12-10 are available with a 3/4 thread and a 5/8" hole and have a 31000lb strength but the 5/8 bolt will be the week link. I have not looked into the NAS bolts yet, I think they would have comparable strength in a 5/8 size. They will be pricey though. I have some used 9/16 but no 5/8 :frown:.

Mookie,

You called it. Spindle bearings are toast. Seals failed and the hubs were full off muck.

GM 1 ton were in good shape.

Thanks.

I have 9/16" bolts attaching my Currie rod ends to the rockwells, and I certainly do not EVER worry about them in the least, and my driving style has become more skinny-pedal Stevie-Wonder-esque each trip out. I've seen rod ends, RE joints, and 1" thick hi-steer arms fail, and the 9/16" bolt holding it all together did not bend or fail.

I did the 3/4" only because that's what the steering ram was pre-tapped.

Cliff notes: You'll be fine with the smaller size.

What grade bolts Rich?

I would use the NAS 9/16 which are from work, 4 of them mount the rotor shaft on the back of a 20000lb helicopter so I think they should be strong enough.

I have not yet fully decided what I'm gonna do yet.

Most all my hardware is Gr. 8..

Watch out for them double-headed dump trucks.. only aircraft that can have a mid-air collision with itself!! :flipoff2: (Yeah, I'm an old Blackhawk (yeah, lawn-dart) guy)

But if you have the super-pimp stuff available, then by all means, go for it! I acquired some good stuff before I got out of the Army...

<1" thick hi-steer arms fail>

 Didn't think that could happen
I'd really like to know how many you've seen fail or under what type of rig/ circumstances caused the carnage. I recently ordered a 1" thick hysteer arm for a D60 knuckle, so fill me in here.... Thanks!

Sorry, I meant to say bend, the other stuff failed. He hit a large tree at about 25-30mph during a rock race we had locally 2 years back.. The hit also egged the stock TRE hole in the Deadenbear knuckle, bent the link, and egged the RE joint housing.

He hit the tree either with the already flattened tire, or just inside the tire, with the knuckle area.. it was a nasty shot any way you look at it. I don't think you've got anything to worry about unless you go around trying to knock over 12" diameter trees at speed.. :)

We don't waste horse power on stinkin tail rotors!

Anything without a tag goes in the garbage unless its worth enough to research and figure out where it came from... As you probably know unfortunately most of hardware is pretty specific, long shank and not much threads.
