What rear differential in a '93 PZJ75? (1 Viewer)

I did some reading trying to confirm this is a 9.5" differential. Haven't been able to locate any pictures to confirm this is a 9.5".
According to the Chassic Plate code K972; I believe this is a 9.5" , 4.11 or 4.56 gears with open carrier.
I am planning to purchase a rear differential U bolt flip kit in the next couple months and cannot return it once I am in the PI again.

Do any of the LC guru's know if this is in fact a 9.5" ?

Yep K=9.5" Once you see an 8" next to a 9.5" it's easy to tell the size difference.

Agreed its a 9.5 inch open diff, but Im a little stumped on the "97" part. A 4.11 would be 08 and a 4.556 would be 25

I found a code description link on the forum and could not ID the 72.
According to what I have read; the PZ diesel usually came with 4.56 gears.

To be honest I thought the SWB models with a 1PZ used the 8" diffs and LWB 1PZ used the big diff but I haven't checked that in the parts diagrams.

Prior to owning this PZJ75; I had owned several Jeeps since the 90s.
Jeeps I know quite well, but I am still learning about the Landcruiser.

No, it won’t. All we can ascertain from your picture is that it has an inspection cover which means it’s a semi-float rear axle.

We would at the very minimum need to see the data plate in the engine compartment... Less that, the inspection cover would need to come off so you can count teeth on the ring gear.

The chassis plate says K972 for axle code.

I have the info documented but I don’t have a picture at hand. What other info would you need ? The transmission is a R141F.

Yeah, a picture would help since you have "remembered" the transmission incorrectly as well. It's an R151F transmission.

I doubt the dataplate says K972. That would be impossible.

Isn't the 5 speed the 151 and the 4 speed the 141 ?
The truck does have a 4 speed not a 5 speed.
The label plate does in fact say K972, but when I get home I will post a picture and the chassis plate.

I have never heard of a 1PZ with a four speed. That doesn't mean they don't exist. Just thought they were all R151F from the factory.

Well hell. @CharlesHS is indeed correct. I am indeed in the wrong here.

It's a 4 speed. R141F transmission and 4.556 gears (making it a 4.56 basically). Very interesting specimen you have.

And my apologies indeed. Learn something new every day.

I would still love to see the data plate for confirmation.

That said, K972 does not correspond at all to the internal Toyota axle housing decode sheet....

The only two things I can confirm with the axle code K972; the rear differential is a 9.5" with a 2 pinion open carrier.
I there a truck axle code sheet for 93- ? to see if those codes match mine.
My LC was built in June 93.

I’ve seen mine truck pzj75 come with 4 speed in Canada

I have read the PZJ75 truck was used as a mine vehicle .
My truck was ordered by a local Fire Dept and had red plates on it before I purchased it which indicated it was a local government vehicle.
