I have searched and read many threads on leatherique and conditioning leather seats. I still have a question that has probably been asked a 100 times, but I couldn't find the answer.

What part of the 100 seats are real leather? I seems that just the middle sections of the seat fronts are true and the rest is not. Is that a correct assumption? Any of you guys condition the WHOLE seat (backs, sides, etc)?

I don't want to condition plastic or vinyl, so I hope someone can give me the answer.

Thanks

Maybe I'm wrong but conditioning plastic should not hurt it.

The leather parts are leather... ;p

On the LX, the entire cover is leather. One test you can do to determine if it's real or man-made leather or vinyl is put pet hair on it. If it's real leather, it'll fall right off. If fake, it'll stick.

push your thumb into it, if it makes a star it is leather. Yes you will be able to tell, Far as I know, only the seating surfaces are leather.

The conditioner will only be soaked up by leather only and not the vinyl.

So just the middle sections of the front seats are leather? Sounds right, as I have some cracking on the side panel of my driver's seat, and it looks like vinyl there. Can anyone confirm?

I am guessing most of the seating surface is leather including the side bolsters. It is difficult to tell since most all car leather is "protected leather" where they actually spray color/protectant over the leather. This makes for a durable, fairly water resistant, stain resistant material. This differs from leather shoes and coats as those are drum dyed where the dye really penetrates the leather. This type of leather often scratches/fades more easily.

The only way to be certain is to remove the seat covers and look at the backside. There is hope for your leather seats. Take them to a leather specialist who can sand the seats down and respray/dye them. Go to a "pre-owned" luxury car dealer and you'll see some very good examples.

I'm sorry, but that is freakin' funny!

The Lexus has coated leather. Conditioner will not penetrate. Just put a good UV protector on it. If your seats are old and the coating is worn off then use a good leather conditioner.
