Seems like there arent any skinny 35" - 38" tyres out there (ie: 35-10.5-15 or 16's. Anyone know of any 10-11" wide 35-38's? I really hate fat tyres on our rigs.

...Was just thinkin'...

I know boggers come in 38x11.00x16s since I've got a pair for spares but what kind of tire are you looking for? DD, trail?

I saw some Michelin's on Expeditionexchange.com that were 36 high by 9.00. I think they are called XZL's. They are a military tire, pretty aggresive and didn't look too skinny. No price. I want a set.

You also might try a search by size on the Tirerack website.

Long live skinny tires

Pretty much looking for a rugged DD (MT). At 35-38" I'm realistic for DD use, and figure that it may simply come down to Interco Swampers.

SS TSL's come in a 38-12.5-15, but dont know what kind of milage one would get out of them...at 38" 12.5" would look skinny and still fit on an 8" rim (which is a HUGE plus).

SS Boggers come in a true 38-12-15, but its a terrible tyre in many circumstances, and would last nill.

Seems all the DD 35's are midgets (ie: 34's), and anything larger is destined for road noise (which is fine).

there is a 35-10 swamper im pretty sure there Q78's there like a 36 im pretty sure they measure 35.75" tall

I am running 36" Super Swamper TSL radials and they are working good. Drive well on the road with some road noise and handle great off road. They are 36 x 12.5 x 15's but the tread measures 9.5 inches wide.

What wheels are you running?

i had some 38x12.50 tsl radials on a set of 15x8 inch rims. no pics, but it was my favorite aggressive tire setup i've ever had. definitely had the tall skinny look.

Remember, when they're 35" or taller 12.50 wide doesn't look wide. It looks just about right.

SS TSL Q78 ~ 36x10.50-15

IIRC the XZLs have been discontinued......

reviving an older thread....

xzl's are not discontinued. The Iraq war is using up all these tires.

I asked my local dealer to price them, one tire was in stock at a warehouse at that time...here the kicker $549.00 a tire CAD. Which is 500 ish US dollars.

I won't be buying those.

How bad are the TSL bias plys on the road? The Q78 looks about what I think I might want.

9.00 r 16 = 36 inch 9inch wide or 11.00 r 16 = 38.50 inch 11 inch wide
surplus city Oraville CA 200.00 per tire
there is a guy running these tires on mud with pics look for military 9.00r16

hey brownbear, personally i wouldnt run bias ply on the road, my buddy ran the ss ltb and the tread was toast in a matter of months, just too soft for a daily driver, my opinion

ya I don't want soft. The gravel I drive would tear em up. I want to head north to the arctic circle on a trip and some of the softer tires won't work.

The new BFgoodrich Mud terrains look alright.

I run a 16x6 rim. It limits the tire sizes.

The size I most likely will run is a 255/85 R16. 33.3 inches big. 10 wide. The new mud terrains come in this size.
