I've been thinking about Cruise Moab and what I'm going to need to do to prep my rig and what trails I'd like to run. I'm not getting down there as often as I'd like and there are a lot trails I haven't run yet.

What would be the minimum requirements for an 80 to run Pritchett Canyon?

I already am on Js, 35s, rear locker, bumpers, sliders, I'm making new control arms for the rear and a new skid plate. I also have a slightly bent rear driveshaft that I'm sure I'm going to swap to when I get down there. Would a front locker do it? I just don't want to be a burden on the trail. I know a winch would be nice but after I buy a front ARB I'm going to be out of funds.

I mean Shotts is going to run it in his 100, so you should be OK :D

Now that's funny christo.

Thanks I'm going to get the ARB or Toyota front locker prior to making the trek down there. Just don't want to get in over my head. I've never been on that trail in any of my Cruisers.

I had seen those photos before. Short Bus is quite a bit more built than my 80, hence my concern. But I really want to do something different. I think Pismo Jim has done Pritchett in his 80 which would closer to mine in build.

Is there a Moab trail that is more difficult for SWB, say a TJ, and better suited for 80s?

Just make sure someone goes up the Rock Pile before you so you can get winched, strapped or whatever.

Eric, I'll see you before then and if not I can send you off some old videos of Pritchett. I'm sure you've seen some already, but, you have'nt seen mine. :D

There's two I'm thinking of and the first one I just rode and ran the camera. The second I drove my 40 and ran the camera. The 40 had no lockers or power steering. That was brutal.

when i did it with the CFO from my work he took his disco through with lockers F and R but only had 285 and some protection... he walked all of it.

OK this is sounding much more promising.

I am wondering the same thing! How bad is pritchett?! from someone who has run it recently in an 80...

FJC did it two years ago with front & rear bumpers, sliders and 3" of lift........worked at it but made it

Wow, five year old thread come back, years after Eric spanked Pritchett three Cruisers ago! :)

Love when old threads come back to life, huh? I did Pritchett in my '85 pickup with open diffs front and rear and 32" AT's. Skinny pedal and some decent spotting will get you through okay.

Thanks for the updates! I guess we will find out?...

It really isn't that bad. I made it without a front locker in my 91. My 94 with lockers did even better. I ran it with Proffitt's Crew in 06. I had more body than the other 6 trucks combined (first picture). When I pulled up they thought I was lost. We did it in a little less than 3 hours. I like this trail a lot. I think I'd take my 100 down it. Rusty Nail is my other favorite trail in the 80. I have no desire to take my 100 down that. The IFS on No Left Turn would really suck. The second photo is on Rusty Nail. This is the opening obstacle. You have to go up it. I went up it and my friend driving a 40 bent his steering linkage. So I had to drive back down it to take him to town to get it fixed. We got it fixed and then he wouldn't go with us. So me and a friend drove Rusty Nail by ourselves in my 80. It probably wasn't the smartest thing to do in the world. But we had a great time. An old thread gets dug up and I have smiles and great memories all over again :) And from what I can tell from video from last year it looks like it is getting easier. The rock pile hasn't had rocks on it for years. I won't lie about that. I took the bypass. The bypass for rock pile is a pretty nasty obstacle in itself.

Roger that...possibly the same run I was on...he had a new ARB locker, basic lift, OEM sliders, AT tires, and he summited...along with two disbelieving hardcore truck owners!

The section the FJ is pulling winch line on is what I found to be the most difficult section. It is steep. It is a little off camber off the top. And it is bumpy surface the whole way up and it is usually covered with loose dirt and small rocks. It is right before the rock pile.
