I trust Land Cruisers.

Looking for a 100 series for my wife and kids. Found a 2000 with 185,000 miles. Are these trucks getting the same kind of mileage that the 3fe cruisers are getting (250,000+ miles)?

Don't know too much about these trucks, thanks for the help.

Chris

Friend's step-dad has a 2003 he bought brand new and uses it for mall cruiser type duties and long road trips with the family. That truck now has 320,000 miles and to my knowledge *no* major part (driveline, engine, transmission) has yet been replaced. It was part of the reason I considered mine at 150k, since I *never* buy cars with that high of mileage.

That said, the 2003+ models have a more reliable transmission than 1998-2002. (I didn't know this before I picked mine up).

I haves 2000 with about 180K. Aside from the usual exhaust manifold leak, it's been trouble free. The 5 speed in the 03+ is a great upgrade, but will drive up the price on the initial purchase. The 98-02 has a good tranny, the 200 year had a few failures that was statistically higher that other years of the A343F. :meh:

All depends on the maintenance history like any vehicle. Make sure it has had the 90k service at 180. If is has to be done, you are looking at 6-700 in parts and twice that if you pay someone to do it.

It's also important to mention that if it has made it to 180k it is statistically less likely to have an issue by that point, however it is not a guarantee.

Another consideration I've mentioned before is that the price difference between an earlier 100 and a later one, especially in the LXs, would likely be more than enough to put a brand new transmission in anyway. It's not a deterrent from purchase by any means, but if the question of longevity is being asked, it needs to be brought up.

I also really dislike the newer dash design and the gauge cluster in the 2003+ trucks, and I know many here don't like the nav. There are many positive aspects to the older trucks, leaving aside the lower cost of entry.

I received my 100 as a family hand-me-down and it was 90k (currently 100K) with no maintenance ever done on it besides a new set of road tires, battery replacement, and oil change. It still works just fine aside from the squeaky rear bushings. Will be changing the fluids sometime soon.

I bought a 99 w/ 125K on it, it now has 155K on it. Only failure/wear, other than brakes, has been one coil pack. Dealer maintained until I bought it. I'm going to keep for at least another 5 years.

175K No issues

Dealer maintained, original anal retentive owner! Transmission/Engine never been touched. Car runs like its new. Make sure Timing Belt is done every 100K, oil changes every 3000, and you are good to go.

228k

I spent many years working for Toyota, rarely see a failure outside of maintenance for expected miles.

My largest repairs, rear axle bearing, ball joints and radiator.

I'm still bewildered on why my mileage went up after replacing the radiator and coolant a few months ago. Average of 205 to 260 per tank on the odo.

I'd love to find an '03+ with miles

Replacing the thermostat could have done this...

My wife's 98' 250,000 miles
Mine 98' 185,000 miles
No major repairs of any kind except maintenance.
Even the paint still looks good!

My wife's drivers seat is kind of tattered though.

211K on my '98. Bought it new, way fewer issues than my wife's 04 Aviator that has 104K on it.
Just breaking it in! As others have said follow the routine maint schedule and ALWAYS search on this site for tips / tricks/ and ideas that will save you time and $.
