I caught a couple of these about 8" long on Black River south of Wildcat Crossing last week. Didn't recognize what they were--threw them back.
I had better luck than my daughter who had a bear punch out a window in her truck at Wooden Crossing on the San Carlos stretch of the river a couple of weeks ago

Sucker, Gila maybe, have to dig out my fish book.

I would have had bear for lunch.

mystery fish

The fish pictured is not a trout or sucker, but a minnow. It's a roundtail chub (Gila robusta). The fish is quite a beauty (and its distribution the subject of my previous degree). Consider yourself lucky, as this native fish has disappeared from most of its historic range. The black river represents one of the few populations that remain in the Gila and Salt river basins. They are also relatively abundant in some sections of the verde as well.
