As most of you know, I've been looking for an 80 for a while. I didn't want to spend over 6k, wanted lockers and preferred cloth interior. Let me tell you, that has been a hard bill to fill:eek:
Anyways, i found this one last week. It is an 93, 200k ish miles, lockers and cloth interior. From what Rory told me, it also the best color. I'm sure that Evan will agree.
Here is the link to the pics. 85badger - Page 1 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
My concern here is that its going to be alot of work and money right out of the box. Additionally, I think that im taken with this one since its the first one I found with all the features i want, and may make a rush decision.
So finally i get to the point, could you all look at the pics and let me know if this looks like a money pit.
Maybe i should just suck up the difference in the money and buy this one instead! 1994 Land Cruiser LandCruiser ARB, OME, E-lockers. From AZ--no rust!

Thanks all
Daisy

Here is what i know needs to be done to this one:
Rebuild the birfs
Drivers side mirror
Drivers side, rear seat window motor
Lockers wont engage
A serious detail/clean-up
Fix oil leak on the top side of the motor
Baseline fluids

Daisy,

Did you see the post from Mike. We looked at a 1997 on Saturday. Sweet 80, though it had leather. Mike's post HERE.

And there is nothing wrong with 6M1, right Mike?

Yes i did see that, might be an option too. Much more room for me with the cloth interior though.
Stupid tallness!!

How much do they want for the green one? FWIW I paid about twice the cost of the red one. Of course I had all the maintence records and knew it was garage kept all it's life. As far of room, Landtank has the seat extend brackets. Heard quite a few good things about them so I bought them (but have yet to put them in).

Green one is 4300 OBO. Im sure there is some room in it after seeing all the pics.
I have read about landtanks brackets, an option for sure.

You can fit the Landtank seat brackets in an afternoon and that takes care of any legroom issues. Guys close to 7' tall rave about the mod. Cloth covers are a 2-3hr install and cost about $300.

Waiting until you find a locked truck with cloth guts in your price range is a crap shoot. They are out there but you are probably looking for that 1 out of 100 truck and getting one that is in great condition with low mileage and good maintenance history is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

95-97 trucks have improved fuel management (MAF vs AFM), OBD-II (trust me, you'll want this), air bags, and several other upgrades. I've heard all the pros and cons of air bags. Nobody plans to get in a wreck but when you or your loved ones are involved in a serious accident you will be glad they are there.

I think you need to add a front pinion seal and a rear main seal to that list. The top-side leak is probably the valve cover gasket and that is not a big deal. Makes me wonder how well the PO kept up with the maintenance though.

Most of your list is something you'll probably need to do on any used vehicle; birfs, detail, baseline fluids. Lockers not engaging might be nothing.... or it might be $500 for an actuator or anywhere in between. More often than not they just need to be exercised so I wouldn't stress too much on that item.

That truck is really rough though and that is a lot of hail damage. That would bug me having dents in every body panel like that... but it is green so a few dents give it character and takes one's eye away from that hideous color. :D

Just looked at the red truck. It has about $2k in usable options (ARB bumper and OME heavy springs/shocks) plus a few other minor things that add value to an enthusiast.

It has 33" tires but he says they are almost worn out (1/4 tread left is ~10k miles at most) Bad paint... and no, getting a new clear coat repaired is not a cheap fix at Maaco.

Daisy,
You really need to go look at that '97. You might pick that one up for $5500, probably no more than $6000. It looks MUCH better than those 2 and it is about 4 years newer with about the same miles as the red one and 50k less miles than the green one.

Tooo much is when you roll your head back and say 'you've got to ****ing kidding'.... :grinpimp:

You cringe every time you see my truck with its dented body panels.

In a morbund sort of way, I cannot wait till Mike gets his first real body damage. That is going to be one heck of a day when he has to get home and explain to Connie why his truck is now starting to look like Onur's.

I should have taken pictures when the basketball goal fell on the Cruiser and dented in the roof. That is "real body damage" guys and it bugs me every time I look out the 2nd floor window and look down and see the banged up roof.

I'll post carnage pics at lunch. :D

I just snorted out coffee through my nose!

What Rory said.

Fixed it for you.

There are no shrink-wrap pics. That was all a filament of your imagination.

I thought that happened in Moab?

Yes, and that light bulb filament is burning very bright.
