What is this, Series 70 thing?

We just had one go bad on our 03 Tacoma shop truck which I didn't know had one until we were under it. Stiff brake pedal and not much braking as the fronts were doing all the work(rear drums on that truck). We remove them on the 80 chassis when they go under the 70 bodies....easier to add in a manual proportioning valve then to deal with brake line management since the LSPV runs a line back to the front. There are drop brackets on the 80 series when you do a lift so the bar is in the right position and works correctly.

I welded on a threaded extension to the linkage on the axle.
This allowed me to raise the axle end of the rod the same amount at the OME lift.
I read somewhere on here that you can disassemble and clean the actual valve part.
I bought a new one instead.
It works as it should.

So do I just remove the stick thing or do I need a whole new brake proportioning valve

Leave it as it is and see what happens. Its quite common on load carrying vehicles and all Toyota load carriers have it. They are generally reliable and beneficial. A 2 1/2 inch lift doesnt affect them in them in my experience.

Hello,

In fact it is a load proportioning valve. Think of it as a low-technology ABS: it varies brake force depending on vehicle load, in order to prevent brake lock.

As mentioned above, it is better to leave it alone. Lift does not affect it.

If you decide to repair it, there is a maintenance procedure in the factory service manual. Get yourself a copy before attempting anything on the LSPV.
