I know you see these come up often..but I'm having a hard time putting a number to it, especially in today's economy.

Things have come up and possibly changing for me, so the 40 may need to find a new home depending if the price is right. I will try to describe it best as possible:

First off, this FJ is a wheeler. It is not abused, however it is not a stocker. Rear fender openings are cut, front fenders are cut and trimmed and rockers are trimmed. The body is almost 100% cancer free, there is one small spot the size of a quarter in the rear sill that has a tiny bit of rot. Other than that...here are the specs:

72 FJ40 with early front bib.

2F with 76 head, tuned factory carb, desmogged, FJ60 dizzy..runs like a TOP!
H41
3 speed case

SOA with 55 springs in the rear, flipped 40 springs in the front.
Bilstein 5125 shocks, 10" in the rear and 14" up front with F150 towers.

FJ60 rear axle, traction bar setup, 4.56 gears/ARB also have spare shafts.

FJ40 front, IFS hub conversion/disks, 4.56 gears/ARB, Bobby long 30 spine inners/birfs/chromo hub gears, 6 shooter knuckles, Marlin 6 bolt steering arms/DOM links with FJ80 TRE's.

ARB's are powered by the new ARB mini compressor (brand new install, new lines, switches, etc)

CV rear shaft, long spline front shaft with HD tubing.

Saginaw power box, front frame plated, winch plate and newer 8274 with synthetic line (six pulls on the winch).

Brand new (less than 50 miles of street time) 37" Maxxus Creepy Crawlers on 15x10 Trail Ready beadlocks (locks are not new, but in great shape)

Full six point cage, brand new Corbeau suspension seats, new 3" Crow Racing cam lock harnesses, bed liner on the floor, TJ fold and tumble rear seat.

SOR full bikini top, also have a full best top soft top and two piece soft doors.

Rig was rewired with a EZ kit, CB included as well.

Picture does not show the sliders, but they are on. I painted the rig myself, it is not a show paint job but looks nice for a wheeler and easy to touch up.

All in all, this rig has NOT been wheeled by me. I bought it off of here last year and have been fixing/changing/modding it over the winter. Lots of time/money spent, and was being setup to be a very capable wheeler while retaining the classy FJ40 look. I have always wanted one of these, but I have two kids and we end up taking the 80 everywhere we go. I hate to see this rig sit and just not be enjoyed, and some things have come up where it might be good to finally sell it.

Sorry for the very long post, I know most of you love your Cruisers like I love this one and it is very hard for me to put a price on it. I look forward to your feedback. Here is the most recent picture I have of it.

uumm, top? doors?

idk if my computer didnt load all the pictures, but without the top or doors i would say $4-5K
and with, add a grand or a little more.

good luck.

Did you read the post? Yes, top and doors are included.

If 6k is top end, it might be better to part it out.

I know a mudder named R.K. just sold one on here on the board that was build similarly and i think he sold it for 6500$ but it was priced for quick sale. I would say you could probably get 7-8k for it if you were patient. Maybe up to 10k. It looks real nice

Looks nice, lots of features. IMHO it is at least an $8K rig.

Location? Might make a difference!

Could Depend on your location...didn't see it in your post.

Good Luck with the sale, unfortunately your timing sucks.

Thats a nice 40. It would be hard to let that go. You should probably post some pictures of the interior and engine bay. Good luck. Maybe whatever is driving you to sell it will change and you will be able to keep it, you have put some money into it and will probably always regret selling it.

all good points. here's another.

since you recently bought it and unless you either stole it or got screwed, I would start with what you paid for it.

today's economy changes everything.

10,000.00 might pay for the accessories. I'm not sure the soa actually increases the value, in many peoples eyes it would be a devaluation point. The rust free tub is a plus.
despite the economy there are still buyers with money who would recognize a value and choose to skip the labor. It will just take a little longer to sell when money's tight

Jason

I can't help any with value but a bit over a year ago there was a guy out on Jefferson-Marion Rd had a 40 for sale for 9K, the last house before the overpass over the tracks. I looked at it just for curiosity, not as good as yours, bad canary yellow paint job, didn't have any extras, had bondo/diamond plate/probably rust. It had a 327 w/stock 3speed. He admitted it wasn't cammed right for the 40/3speed , no low end. It sat for a long time before it disappeared. Yours is many times the rig over that one.

If you do list it try the Oregonian On Line. We've found it to be the best place to use when we are selling Boxer pups. We've had people call from Seattle to Medford to Tri-Cities to Pendleton, once even from Montana, lots of coverage.

Don

It would be worth more with that SM420 in it. ;)

Judging the Craigslist ads, $8K-$10K would be about the going price. I haven't seen any legitimate ads for any more than that around here.

Thanks for the input all. No hardtop/factory doors, as it says in my post best top/soft doors.

The rig is located in Salem, Oregon and came from California.

Thanks for the input, and Don, I remember that Yellow cruiser and looked it as well before I bought this one. I felt this was a better buy in the end.

Honestly, from what you guys have said value wise, it close to what I was sorta thinking. I know when I bought it, a rig like this one would have been worth 12-14k zone, or at least asking price at the time. I know things have changed a bit and not trying to be unrealistic.

Maybe things will change and it will be able to be kept. Here are a few more pictures, I need to take some more, these are just what I have on my account right now if it will help anyone. I also forgot to add in the new clutch, all leaks fixed, optima battery...LED lights...I know there is more, I just did a quick post and you have all been helpful.

That is a really nice 40. I'll go ahead and say you are outside my budget. And I am really sad to say that cause that is a sweet rig.

I'm feelin' for ya too. Trying to decide myself whether to sell the my '76 donor rig or part out what I don't need to resurrect my '74. Could I make enough selling it complete (stock with a little rust in the rear of the tub) to get the '40 done right in the first place or should I take what I need to get the '74 on the road and part out what's left. Mine is about 1/10 as nice as yours and I have no emotional attachments to it as you do yours.

Good luck man!!
