What happened to my 5VZ-FE?

Quite the frustrating saga Steve! Good to finally know the culprits...but what a rare thing.

No more 'mystery to me' :)

Nice find Steve, too bad they weren't able to find it the first time.

Got some heads this morning $114 with 7 month warranty :D

I always thought I took good care of my 4runner and now I know...the donor had 80k less miles and looked much worse. I'm pretty sure the engine has over heated, head gaskets leaking, plugs should have been twice replaced, and the oil should have been changed more often. But the important thing is the heads look good and there's a warranty!

Hopefully I'll have it running by or on the 4th if shop isn't too busy. I'm hoping I can get some video of the leaking heads...it's a trip.

Oh yeah thanks John! My minion, I mean assistant ;-)

Looks like the road to recovery.

Just curious-do you get these heads done before install? I assume so but curious what your plans are.

Planning the revenge trip already-with meet up at the Bear's Ears, of course!

Congrats on finally finding the cause. I figured something was still lurking somewhere, but would not have guessed it to be this. I've never seen or even heard of a coolant leak like that before.

You got a heck of a deal on those used heads, so at least someone is looking out for ya.

Yup they'll be fully tested before anything and then complete redone.

Hoping if things go well to make the HDC Ouray trip

Wow... That's a new one for me. Must have been a very rare manufacturing defect.... Possibly.

Glad you got this all squared away finally Steve.

Back up and running...fingers crossed

Can already tell there's a definite lack on coolant in the oil, at least not a massive amount. Time will tell!

Nice work on the video-that must have taken as long as the actual work!

Hope to see you and this truck next year.

I enjoyed the video, nice job with the video and the engine. It worked flawlessly in Ouray last week.

That is about one of the coolest videos I have seen. Glad it all came back together and started for you.

And you were WAAAYYYY the **** out there when it died... That is some beautiful country out there, one day I am going to make plans to take an extended road trip out there to see some of those beautiful sites.
