i am installing some aux lights. i know the power wires from the batt will be heavier. but what gauge are the factory wires to things like dash switches. i need to order some conectors to wire it all up. also any sugestions about conectors and where to get them from is welcome.

Mostly 18 gauge wiring.

When I need just a few crimp connectors, I hit up the local car stereo shop who will sometimes just give them to me, otherwise they can be expensive unless you buy in bulk.

For connectors with housings, try www.digikey.com

http://www.waytekwire.com/products/ is a good source of automotive electrical wire/connectors etc. Reasonable prices. I've used them several times and they've been prompt and reliable.

If you're adding more wiring etc - don't forget some quality fuses in the appropriate leads...

cheers,
george.

You will probably want to run a little heavier gauge wire as your main power feed to your aux lights and run them through a relay.

14 16 18 20 all sorts...

Id run 14 and a relay with switch on the grounded side

Depends on amps required though...

Running thru relay is critical. Right there changes the wire gauge needed because you don't need to pump large draws thru it. Power from relay will be larger.

Yes I should say that it takes little to energize a relay. You can run a lighter gauge to power it as well as your switch on the ground side coming into the cab. Then run heavier to the relay terminals feeding the lights.

Tap a 12v ignition source in the engine bay for the relay hot.

i will be using the slee aux harness. so really i just need to make conecrions the pigtail of a factory switch. i dont even know if i care to do the illumination on the switch. i really hate to even cut a single factory wire to get power for ilumination on the switch.
