I am having hard time in Middle East finding the right oil to use in very hot weather here and keep my engine running smooth. I drive 500-600 miles per week and in need of reliable oil to use without worry. There are verities of synthetic oil here but are made locally which I don't trust.(used one
Mobile1 here claims to be from France but so expensive (12 bottle for 120$)

Finally I found what seems to be good oil made in German.
Please share your thoughts about this oil
And suggestions.
Thanks

In a quick look, it seems it's not readily available in the U.S., so not many will be familiar with it.

A different viscosity, but that's what I've used in my last two rigs (FZJ-78 & FZJ80).... Have several friends that use it also on different Land Cruisers and I've never know of any problems because of it. My personal experience is with over 400.000 kms using it from -4C to +40C ... I would not hesitate to put it in the 100.
With oils, everybody will have a different opinion !
In the end "new oil is better than old oil, old oil is better than no oil!"

Pennzoil Ultra.. Good stuff.

Well my options are limited.

Reason am checking is I used several synth oil like castrol and burnt after 5000 miles.

I just want to check it meets all the specs for 100 US model.

I dont live in a hot place but would of thought the engine runs at the same temp, if it runs hotter then maybe better cooling is required and a lower temp thermostat.

I wouldnt of thought the right oil would be an issue, as every vehicle you see in the middle east on the news is a toyota.
That's true but almost everybody uses 20w-50 here which I think it's not right.

I personally would use what the locals use, they are using that viscosity because of the high ambient temps, 20w-50 will give you better high temp protection. Petrol is probably cheap enough not to be worrying about using a thin oil like 5w-30, as this is why the manufacterers like thin oils, it improves mpg.

If 5w-30 is getting burnt after 5000k then it is the wrong oil, If 20w-50 lasts 5000k without getting burnt then surely it's better. Ask the local Toyota dealer.

Well most people have no knowledge here about oil and maintenance. Gas stations offer 20w50 to sell what they have in stocks but after while, they hear knocking in the engine and when they try what's recommend, they see the difference.
Gas is cheap here but it doesn't mean I have to use whatever everyone recommended, they are clueless.
Believe it or not even dealers are clueless as well,
I once asked them about what type of greas they use for the shafts, they said whatever you have.

Well I used 5-30 mobile1 one and it didn't burn.
It was s***ty oil I used

The shell oil does seem to be a good quality oil, I did try to read up on oil type for hot climates but there was to many conflicting opinions. Some say use higher viscosity, some say it doesn't matter as long as engine runs within temps. I picked my oil up from Toyota and they gave me 10w-40, it was free so I just chucked it in, I normally would buy a 5w-30 synthetic and would have no issues using shell helix.

I remember calling Lexus regarding the viscosity and told them about the weather (130 degree here) and they said " weather has nothing to do with the oil viscosity, it's the engine temp what matters"

Is that correct?

Shell advise the same oil whether it be Iceland or UAE they have a site called lubematch which I checked , they recommend 10w-40 as standard but to check handbook for premium type, this is 5w-30 from what I remember, so it looks like they don't differentiate the oil type on climate. When I went to a land cruiser specialist which specialise in modding cruisers for overlanding the only thing they told me to do was to put a bigger Radiator on as the UK spec isn't upto cooling the engine in Africa temps.

Sorry I missed this,it is in the small print on shell site

Lubricant / Capacity Notes
a.
Alternative recommendations, Engine (Petrol), >2000: <-29°C to 10°C, 5W-30; -18°C to >38°C, 10W-30; -12°C to >38°C, 15W-40; -7°C to >38°C, 20W-50

This is like Pennzoil Ultra in USA, but not quite it. it's better. It's ACEA rating and German certs put it above. And A3/B4 means this oil is not thin. It's a sturdy 5W-30, in overlap zone with some 0W-40 out there. Use it with confidence
