hey there, 3 things happend about 3 weeks to a month ago with my fj60. early morning heading home from work my oil gauge started to move up and down, not alot but enough to notice. Also the normal valve/rocker arm sound got louder. So i shut the engine off and checked the oil and it was good as in not low. I also looked for oil leaks in the obvious places and none to be found. i started it up and made a mad dash home parked it. it has basically sat there for a while and last week i finally was able to get the valve cover off and found a little bit of the creamy water/oil sludge up by cylinder one (we are talking very little) also none on the under side of the valve cover. there was however a bit more under oil cap. i found more creamy sludge in the top side of the pcv valve. i guess what i am asking does this sound like the start of a head gasket getting ready to go. i hope my story makes some sense. if you need pictures i can post pictures.

thanks for your time

jonathan

A small amount of sludge is normal on any motor, there is always moisture in the air that will cause condinsation in the valve cover. Oil pressure and head gasket are not related. I would install a mechanical oil guage and get a true pressure reading before getting too worked up. Maybe the the valve train noise got louder "in your head" b/c the oil pressure changed. could be as simple as the stock pressure guage

thanks for the quick reply, i will look into your suggestions.
