So on to a new subject.

Torque steer: with throttle input or aggressive deceleration my 40 has a tendency to point itself where it wants, 100% feels like it’s coming from the rear. It has done this since day 1 of getting it going. It was always manageable. I have all new spring bushings.

It’s borderline dangerous with 300+ horse pressures.

So let’s see what we can dive off into the rabbit hole and find out.

Step one. Retighten all u bolts. Again.

Step two. Hope step one helps

Step three. Drink beer and think about it.

Open to suggestions.
Virtual beer time!

Sooo - how are your springs? Have a cruiser lean?
How is your pinion angle - could worn ujoints etc cause rotation of driveshaft/axle with heavy torque load and then translate to your springs.

And drink.

Springs are pretty “new” few thousand mile HEll For Stout 4” springs. Doesn’t every cruiser lean?

All new driveshaft in the rear since day one. Freshly checked and lengthened with the swap.

Pinion angle looks pretty, I think it’s 4* which is what I set my t case at when I did the swap. Which is nice because I have no driveline vibes now.

I ran a lockrite for about 10yrs and the torque steer was atrocious. On acceleration the right rear would squat and pull badly, on deacceleration it was exactly opposite. I would anticipate this because I was in control of the throttle. I eventually installed a Detriot locker and for some reason it's hardly noticeable, and quite. I wheel with a lot jeeps, that ran lunchbox's and they had the same characteristics.

You’re right. Lunchbox. Aussie brand.

It’s a love hate. I love that it works when it needs to. I love that it was dirt cheap on trade.

I hate it locking and unlocking when it does. It’s definitely annoying at times.

My next rear axle will have something different. Maybe a Detroit style. More than likely a selectable locker of some sort.

Mount a go pro underneath and see what’s twisting? Frame, mounts….?
Also wanna be first in (on this page) to say “links”, haha.

I'm with ya, they're cheap and effective. I've been running a Detroit for probably 20yrs. It rarely makes a noise and has ran flawlessly. I have an arb in the frt. I put it together a long time ago and it sees more work and trail anymore. My other 40 will get a pair of arb's or maybe a Detroit in the rear.
