I used redline for my diffs and transfer case. It has the LSD additive already, so no need to add anymore.
3+ years now and no problems or leaks.

Tell ya' what. I'll compare the smell of both the auto trans fluid and the LSD fluid tonight and see if they're the same

Just replaced my front diff oil today with 80w90 (the cheap non-synthetic shat) as Onur recommends to do. That has never let me down. If the diff was an LSD type, I'd just get a small bottle of the additive and throw that in first before filling it up with the rest of the 80w90. That LSD additive somehow makes the fluid much more "slippery".

UPDATE** I've just bought some Penrite 85/140 heavy duty 'Limslip' gear oil. There was also straight 140 that said 'for extreme 4x4 loads and quietens noisy older diffs'

Theres also a Nulon product for like.. $16 that he said a mechanic used for a really noisy diff that tamed it right down like new, apparently. I thought I'd just try this first. All it seemed to be was a very heavy oil, which, (like a banana peel) would make sense.

It's really hot up here too so I figured, like engine oil I'd go the heavier viscosity. I've also thought about why this may have happened, and because the VC might have been failing for quite a while, I believe this will certainly strain the driveline and differential. I think thats what's happened. The 2.5litre oil was only $30

Premium extreme pressure automotive gear oils
meeting the requirements of API GL-5, obsolete GL-
6 and the proposed PG-2 category.
APPLICATION
Designed for use in limited slip (or spin resistant)
rear axles on passenger cars, light commercials,
4WDs and on- and off- highway truck and
construction equipment.
All Penrite Limslip oils may be be used in
conventional hypoid rear axles.
For consistent high temperature or extreme high
load operation such as heavy towing, Penrite SIN
Gear Oil 75 should be used.
Penrite Limslip 140 is particularly recommended in
higher ambient conditions, or for quietening noisy
differentials where the noise is due to wear, thus
prolonging the life of the unit before rebuild is
required.
For consistent high temperature or extreme high
load operation such as heavy towing, Penrite SIN
Gear Oil 80 should be used
CUSTOMER BENEFITS
•
Superior thermal stability, maintaining
cleanliness of critical parts thus extending
the life of the components.

•
Superior protection against scoring and
spalling wear which can occur under
repeated shock load conditions.

•
Quiet, shudder free operation due to use of
selected friction modifiers.

Whoops, bye-bye diff oil change. Just threaded the bolt.
Lucky I undid the filler first..!

Ask Onur or CDan to sell you six new style bolts (three with magnets and three without for the filler end) that use a 10mm hex key to replace all the bolts on your three diffs. Maybe also ask for the small metal gaskets for each too. They work well.

Ok, UPDATE** Just biught a 6 pojnt 24mm and it cae out no worries. I originally bought it for the other one cause I didn't wanna mess that up but theres enough meat left on that it came right out with some force no worries!

Just goes to show how sitty those star threads are, why do they bother with them? I bought a cold chisel too cause I didn't think the right socket would actually get it at this point.

Will drain after work Xmas party this arvo.

Weld a good nut to the buggered nut.

Thanks mate. I had a welder ready to go but then realised. The LPG bottle is 10 cm's away. And it just so happens (tragically) that a local 24 year old this morning was killed instantly when the van he started filled with gas bottles exploded. A friend of mine who lives in the suburb FELT the explosion from her house.. So very sad news for the young man's Family. He was a local Fridgie.

As stated above, I just bought the propper 6-point socket and had no worries, whearas the other star socket slips.

Ok all done. It turns out that the gear oil was just red. And the new oil is Blue, so because there was a little bit of red left behind the colour is almost black..

There were no visible metal flakes in the red oil, and it looked fine so all in all, a pointless exercise.

I'm now thinking that it's a front wheel bearing. When I wind down the window I 'think' I can hear it, I've played with tat bearing before and it may have been done up a little too tight.

UPDATE** The whine is almost non existant now.. We've had some wet weather, but also some dry days in between so I'm unsure whats going on..?
I think it's gone . . This is also after removing my viscous coupler. I notice no 'clunk' in the driveline anymore either, so really happy with that.

Maybe you could get a better idea if you tasted them... lol. J/k

Sorry... my first thought was... "Hi. I'm Jim and I sniff atf".
