What did you do with your truck this week? (2 Viewers)

Thanks for the tips. I got it out last night with a longer pry-bar, going at it from the rear rather than the front and using some love-taps from a 5-lb sledge.

The actual dis-assembly of the the CV shaft was pretty easy, although messy.

One of things that takes 2 nights the first time, and 20 minutes once you have learned. :meh:

I picked up the new boot I ordered from Toyota of Greenville (didn't want to drive to Ralph Hayes for a $30 part) today and will be re-assembling tonight.

Going to change all of the differential's and x-fer case fluid while I am in there. Probably put Mobil-1 75w-90 in all three, unless anyone has a better suggestion.

Considering this is our 2nd Lexus, what is really funny (although sadly expected) is how little information you find about maintenance and repair for anything branded Lexus, but worlds of info for the equivilant Toyota (FJ, 4Runner, Tacoma, etc). Just shows how much the Lexus brand and Lexus owners don't want to get messy so they rely on and are taken advantage of by the dealership (example $1200 for the 60k service)

It means a few days away from the 60, but need to keep the :princess: happy, especially since we found out she is pregnant with our first!

Thanks! - we are excited.

Finished the boot repair on the GX - no issues with re-assembly, but did have a minor panic moment last night when I re-checked the lug nuts and realized I had never tightened them down in the first place. Luckily a couple of them were tight enough to hold everything together.

Also put a new battery in the 60 - DieHard Platinum (Odyssey) Group 65 P2. Got it on sale for $189 (normally $229), plus a $10 coupon.

Wow - what a difference turning that starter!

Now to figure out what to do for battery cables for the upcoming winch install.

Here is a crappy cell-pic from the Parts Swap -

I've since installed the bull-bar pilfered from a Defender and installed some reproduction 62 mirrors.

Grats on the first!!!

If you go to Lexus they can print out all the dealer records. I did for mine.

I'm not sure if they are as detailed as what your dealer provided, but if you register on the corporate Lexus owners site, you have access to the entire service history based on the VIN.

It was pretty helpful when I argued for a "good-will" out-of-warranty repair for a TSB issue on a RX we had.

The dealer I had was the only dealer servicing it for most of its life (the owner provided hard copy detail of EVERY repair/service, etc done to it). Made it easy for me.

Doing the same thing on my tacoma. Always been dealer maintained and always at the correct interval on all maintaince. I'll be spending a few hours there on saturday for its 60k. Hopefully this all pays off at the end if i ever decide to sell it.

If anyone wants to hang out at the dealership, i'll be there first thing in the morning.

That's a good candidate for keeping up with the records. A low mileage stock Tacoma in the most desirable configuration. It'll pay off, hell you could probably sell it for a profit now.

With me putting 25,000 miles a year on a truck, mine is a perfect candidate for a build up/beater.;)

I'm the worst about keeping records. I know what's been done and when and I'm not going to BS a buyer should that time come. Either way, they have no reason to believe me without paperwork. Maybe one day I'll do better...nah. I've got receipts laying around somewhere. I never throw them away. I just don't put them in a file.

got the brake booster/master cylinder off of a 1986 Pontiac Fiero (stock 4 wheel disks but prop/combination block is shared with other gm vehicles of same era with rear drums so hopefully no added prop vavle or residual valve will be needed) modified to fit the firewall of a 1967 FJ40.

Now all i gotta do is figure out a way to get the axle to my shop and rebuilt!

I have all the parts i need for the swap except a tub of grease and 1 or two common fittings that i can go to cline to pick up since they are just a few blocks from my shop.

Going on a day trip tomorrow so cleaning up the truck, getting the washers on the skid (got some protective washers) and will be banging out the nice divot I put in the plate over the gas tank.

Johns Creek tomorrow with the boys! Woohoo!

on another note...i dont keep records of jack. Even my build threads lack detail and pics.

Other than tires no shops get anywhere near my vehicle with a wrench.

If they did they would probably scratch their heads and wonder where to begin first.

The guy i traded my 60 to has yet to take it in for a service but i'm wanting to see a picture of the reaction on someone's face if he were to take that rig into a quick lube or walmart for one of their 29.99 buck oil changes

Not only would the 2 massive oil filters throw them off but it holds nearly 3 gallons of oil with the filters being empty.

unless he found someone that is a 4x4 nut the Ranger overdrive until would probably bring the look of a 3 headed dragon to the faces of the service department

Went to look at a low milage Taco ext cab in Gastonia. Not sure how clean over the phone and add = Ben hit in the front, rust, weird clutch, scratches and big scrub/scratch on the dash??????????

I confirmed my order for a Prado front bumper, snorkel, and a 9500 Iron Man winch...all on the boat from Aussie due here in January.
