What did you do with your truck this week?

Had fun with the family. Did a little camping this weekend at Falls Lake NC then went to the NC Ren Faire.

Hey I saw you cruising around RDU and threw a wave from the 45. That bumper sets you apart.

swapped tires around here and will be working on a metal fuel line for the OBX trip this week.

Noticed that a hose on my charcoal canister was torn going from canister lid to port attached to it like a sending unit. Any how there was all kinds of junk inside the tube...so found one that worked and attached it for temp fix but has a sharp bend so sure I will need a firmed L-hose to get it right.

Also put down payment on a different engine with 0 Miles on it on original Toyota block still at original Toyota specs. :D

Got a new windshield and silicon wiper blades. I am amazed at the difference. The old one had a lot of pitting due to salt and sand, but interestingly enough no rust to speak of to say it was ever up north. I got plenty tired of the leak on my leg too.

Patched more holes on the rear wheel well. Alex came over and help me smooth out the panels. I welded the rest of the right side rear sill in place and painted the inner fender getiing it readay to put back on.

Getting closer.

I tried to spray on durabak, but that didn't work so well. The gun did not work the way I wanted, so I rolled it on. Not great looking, but should be functional. I laid it down thick enough to cover most of my flaws from body work, so I am hoping it'll do it's job. All I gotta do now is line the tranny hump and put it back together... Oh, I gotta put the tires on and wire up the tail lights, but i'm almost done!!! Maybe it'll be at the monthly this saturday...

Nice day and the recycles had backed up. That used to be Gundy's chore. Looking down at ol Gundy next to the cabin with Sprite frolicking about it hit me. Dang, the old boy hasn't been fired in months now.
Tires look great. No obvious puddles underneath.
Check under the hood and all appears well.
Switch on the battery disconnect, turn on the switch, depress the throttle about a 1/4, pull the hand throttle out ever so slightly. Hit the switch. Varoom. Pump the clutch/brakes a few times. Engage/shift tranny. Check the gauges. Oil 60+, water, amps, fuel and vacuum steady. We're off!
Gundy was a hit at the recycle center. Wound up having to open the hood.
Sprite wowed 'em of course.
Leaving, I treated the guys to an old fashion idle crawl out to the stop sign and let that locker clank
as I rounded the tight, down and left turn to the exit stop sign. I then demonstrated what
a locker, on a sharp turn from stop, causes. Chirp....chirp....chirp
Ol Gundy loved every minute of it. So did Lynn and Sprite.
Lynn drove Big to work today. She thought the MB battery was dead. Uhh..shift into "P" please.
:princess:
I had the Coach, the 80, and was headed out of town.
The 60, Big, didn't have a "P" position and happily roared to life. ( Eldenbrock/Weber/-cat)
They dutifully did the job....That's Land Cruisers for you. Beasts of burden.
Big's going to haul about 500lbs of mulch this week.
It's already delivered about of ton of stuff for the garden.
I need to get the AC purged and re-filled on the 60, but other than that, they just patiently sit
there and await their next command.
Damn, I love Cruisers.
Ohm...cruiser,cruiser,cruiser...Ohm

I finally got the front axle back under the jeep...GSMTR,here we come

Changed my rear brake pads a couple weeks ago and finally got around to turning the rotors today on my lunch break. They were squealing like a banshee, so I just skimmed .003" off the surface. They had not warped or anything dramatic like that.

Wed night I started welding my passenger rear fender back on. Ran out of wire for the welder.
Yesterday I picked up a 10lb spool of .023. If I run out of that on this build I need to go into welding full time. So last night I finished up my welding on the rear fender and ground the welds down. Looks good and best yet it is very solid. At least on that side. Tonight I'm going to finish it up and get a coat of etching primer on it. That or a layer of epoxy primer. I haven't decided.

Sat my plan is to finish up the drivers side and start laying some bondo and smoothing things out.

Discovered a new squeak on my truck last week. Thought it was the rotors - it wasn't. Put it on the rack at work and started turning things by hand to trace the sound (the squeak is rotational in nature). And traced it to the transfer case or the drive shaft u-joint at the front. Going to drop the drive shaft this week and see if that eliminates the noise while driving in front wheel only. If not, then I got a bigger mess to deal with (the t-case)!

Alex came over this morning and helped me wrench on the cruiser. Got a lot done.

Friday I welded the passenger fender on.

Cut what was left of the drivers side fender off. Some good rust inside the upper channel. Will be treating that with some rust bullets before welding the new skin on.

Put a coat of etching primer on the fender then layed a coat of medium filler on the panel. Sanded then layed another coat of primer. All I need to do now is sand with 180 and start laying primer and paint.

Other side is another story though I did finish the metal work on the fender with a hammer and dolly. It's ready to be welded after I put some rust bullets on the back. Also got the drivers rocker welded in. 1/4 inch steel.

Installed a couple of mini LED strips..... above the front drivers and passengers floor boards. I put one on the AC duct and one on the metal under-dash. I got tired of things falling in the floorboard and at night I cannot see to pick them up.

While I was re-tightening the double nuts on the front hubs/wheels I stripped a caliper/knuckle bolt hole. That is the second one on that particular knuckle, I was at 75 ft-lbs and spec is 90 ft-lbs....

Added grease to the knuckles.

Having the flexible stainless steel braided brake lines make this job super easy.

Took the Pig on two, two hour test runs. She did great. I need to adjust the valves and the clutch. I can hear the throwout bearing spinning down when I cut her off, she is out of gear and the clutch is not depressed. Touch the clutch and the throwout bearing spinning noise stops.

Started work on a rear storage platform - and also installed a layer of heat proofing-type material I found at Lowes under my floormats and above the QuietCrap. It was cheap so we will see how it works.
