What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

She actually asked for something like this for just this reason. But it won't be twice the fuel mileage. The diesel usually gets 19 with her driving. But with the added cost of diesel it'll be half the cost for fuel. Plus wear and tear. Oil changes.... Blah blah. She's being responsible and I applaud her.
I jump in the wife's Camry all the time for the same reasons 😆

Ran up into the San Juan’s for the day

Did not do the power steering today. But was able to get under the LC and check and torque all major hardware, greased the trailing arms, drive shafts, and did an oil change too.

Used a heavier oil 10W-40, which most might think it is a little thick but with AZ summers will thin it out.

Sorry again not an 80 but feel like this is my spot in MUD. Here is a 70 pulling a hippo out of the Zambezi to feel a village . Not my hippo …View attachment 4199989
If I squint I think I can see a bull shark 😱. Those things always terrified me.

Because some of you assholes don’t care if I stay married it was brought to my attention that a throttle lock exists and I figured whist I had a JIS #2 in hand I might as well install a CDL switch I’ve been hoarding for about 2 days 😂…. Is there any other frivolous things I can install that I’m unaware of? Also I deleted the EGR cause F the environment.

That brake pedal pad is showing wear... I think you should replace it.

Finally got around to getting the radio antenna sorted out. I bought all of the correct pins and connectors for the RG174 antenna line... It didn't matter what I did, I couldn't get the dang things to work properly... and, because the parts were so small, I'd always end up dropping them and cussing (and wanting to smash stuff up). So, I stopped and asked, what would teenage me have done? Splice the fugger... that's exactly what I did... with electrical tape, a small piece of straightened paperclip to stop the joint from flexing and waterproof shrink wrap to weather proof the connection. Worked like a charm...

The thing is, I rarely listen to the radio, but I can't abide things not working properly.... and I wasn't about to take the dang dash out again to snake the wire.

Sometimes s*** like that is the best method to just get it working. When I try to be perfect (I don't do it often), and stuff starts going wrong, I spend so much time on a small step like this, then when the next issue comes up, I just give up and walk away.

This weekend, I was relocating my sub from under the seat to the QPM and made a few similar wiring compromises. :) I have no doubt they'll hold up for a long time but if they don't I just lose a subwoofer so not really critical. I really need to dig in to my antenna not working too. I have an extra one and need to bench test it and see if I just should replace it.

That's exactly how I was feeling.

Even though I hate stuff not being "perfect", there are times when it's just not going to happen... lol. For now, it works, and with something like an antenna... that's good enough for me.

Test fit the new engine, transmission, & transfer case ✅

Still needs some minor adjustments to get things positioned correctly before tacking the engine brackets in. But we're pleased with it clearing the concern areas (oil pan, transmission pan, etc). I've never thought of an LS as "small" but there's definitely room for activities in here. At least until we start filling in the empty space with battery boxes, hoses, additional accessories, wiring, etc.

How was the hand throttle install? I have one of those ready to go in, just need to find some time.

Finally got it out of my parents garage and back to Aspen! The cruisers motor has been back together for a couple months, but I was experiencing a death wobble which ended up being tires. Got 38/11.5r17 Nittos and it is rock solid now.

It was fun breaking in the new motor and getting dialed into the manual. I am still not romping on it as I break it in (and need to put an AFR gauge on it to account for the supercharger with now a 2.8), but there is no doubt it has way more power. Also gearing with the H152 on the highway is perfect with 4.88s and 38s.

Took the 80 back from my daughter. She's going to school about 30 miles from home. And between school and work I don't want those miles on it. So we bought her this

1 owner. 105k miles. Maintenance records.
New tires going on it on Wednesday. Going to baseline it next weekend. Gonna throw an apple car play deck in it and let her send it

sweet score for your daughter!! This guy on YT has a sweet video on clearing up those headlights. He goes by ChrisFix. Simple process using spray water bottle and couple of different grit sandpaper and finish off with a clear coat of UV spray.
