What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Because some of you assholes don’t care if I stay married it was brought to my attention that a throttle lock exists and I figured whist I had a JIS #2 in hand I might as well install a CDL switch I’ve been hoarding for about 2 days 😂…. Is there any other frivolous things I can install that I’m unaware of? Also I deleted the EGR cause F the environment.
Meh - wives come and go, but the 80 will be your trusted and faithful companion forever.

Said the divorced guy. :flipoff2:

After getting the 60 detailed on Friday I spent alot of time tinkering on the 80. I finally got fed up with my old touchscreen pioneer head unit I put in back in 2010. Having car play and actual bluetooth was calling my name. So I purchased a Sony axv head unit like I have in the 60..... back in March, how time flies with work and life.

I also finally got tired of having quarters jammed in my air vents so I purchased an all new set and figured what better time to do these than when I have the dash apart. These weren't too bad to get in there although a pain to get out and avoid breaking the mounts on the cluster surround. While I had the whole dash down I figured what the hell, I might as well put a backup camera, same day amazon delivery was clutch here. I ordered the camera in the morning and by the time I had everything else taken apart and ready the delivery guy showed up.

I just went with a cheap one that had decent reviews, seems to work well enough. Running the wire was sweaty work.

While having a cruiser weekend I figured what the hell what other parts and mods do I have sitting in my cruiser shed, turns out I had a Lutz speedo correct with purchase receipt from 2023 :skull:. Took all of 5 minutes to rig up. not sure why I put that one off for so long, now if I am going 65 MPH the speedo says it instead of 56, not that I ever really take the highway.

Up next is window treatment, ordered all new window runs, belt moulding and the window rocket. Cheers!

How was the hand throttle install? I have one of those ready to go in, just need to find some time.
Super easy the only thing I would do different is mark the bottom of where the cable towards the petal clips in the bracket. There are two flat notches where the black cable snaps into the bracket it’s kinda hard to see when your laying on your back id mark both sides with paint marker so you can index it properly. Also having a pair of Knipex cobras to help force the cable into the bracket. I can take pictures if you want. There’s a good right up on it but I wish I just made some alignment reference points. Would’ve made it slightly easier.

sweet score for your daughter!! This guy on YT has a sweet video on clearing up those headlights. He goes by ChrisFix. Simple process using spray water bottle and couple of different grit sandpaper and finish off with a clear coat of UV spray.
Yup. We've got the attachment for my drill to make it a little easier. But she's got work and school so we've got to squeeze it in

Love my Badlands...just heavy as f*#k. I have 3 floor jacks, 1 trans jack, and 1 motorcycle jack, I use them all the time!

My 80 is still out in CO chilling...had a small club event at Good Evening Ranch in WVA this past weekend...small motley crew of rigs....1 200, 2 80's, 1 FJ Cruiser, 1 Ford Explorer on 35's (my son, he has a 4Runner too), 1 Ford Ranger (owner has a BJ70 too). It was rainy overnight, but fine during the day, but very slick!

And my signature Crab Cakes for dinner... ;) 🦀

I was back in md two weeks ago. And had a proper crab cake. Had been too long!!

Drove it. First time in months.

Ordered a fuel and oil filter from cruiser outfitters. It's 1000km from an oil change and needs a fuel filter also

Don’t end up like me. Check yer nuts.

Typical for a LHD application. The right hand steering arm loosens first. Most likely the studs were not properly seated in the knuckles, during reassembly, after the last service. The left side studs are almost certainly loose as well.

We had a hiccup that distracted me at the final hour of a knuckle rebuild and I didn’t check Torrain before I drove it. Tool 1500 miles and 4 days of wheeling to come apart on the way back from moab. Completely my fault. All torqued to spec now.

I noticed it when my steering wheel straightened after wheeling at sas and then suddenly the wheel wasn’t canted. Pretty amazing that the fitted bearing surfaces all fit back together.

To confirm, you reset the studs in the knuckles prior to re-torqueing the nuts. Correct?

Yes. They were already most of the way loose. I jacked it up to avoid preloading against the weight of that corner, backed them out, tapped the cap back in and torqued them up.

Threw a code on the drive home from work yesterday... 26... I'm hoping that was a stored code from all of the fuel delivery issues that I had (and that I forgot to clear). Probably wishful thinking... lol. But, cleared it and took it out for a 30 minute drive in mixed conditions... some highway and some backroads... the code hasn't reappeared. If it does, I guess it's time to inspect the O2 sensors.

Exploring and looking for some spots for the upcoming rifle spike elk hunt in October. Found some good water not on the map.

How did the stereo install go?
I'm looking to upgrade my entire sound system (stereo, speakers ). I'm considering doing it myself but I've never installed a sound system before.
