Got a standalone P0333 code (knock sensor 2 circuit high input, bank 2) this week and the truck was going into limp mode (dumping fuel into the system and not shifting into 5th gear) until it was cleared. The code kept reappearing almost instantly after being cleared though, so highway driving was not ideal. There were no other codes, engine was running normally, and there was no actual engine knock.

Ordered two new knock sensors and an intake manifold gasket set. Once the intake was off, I found the ruins of an old rodent nest in the cylinder valley under the sais pump. All wires look good and not chewed up thankfully. I decided to clean the intake and injectors while it was all apart, swapped the sensors, and everything went back together eventually with no major issues. I am not looking forward to doing this again if the starter ever goes out. Not a particularly hard job, just tedious.
If you happen to pull it off again, it's best to just go ahead and replace the starter. My starter was dead at 140K or so, and a Denso reman was only $100 or so on Rock Auto. I also did a SAIS bypass at the same time to pre-emptively address that common issue. The intake pull itself isn't too bad, but getting the SAIS piping out of the way to access the starter bolts is an absolute nightmare (which is another reason to do the SAIS bypass and just permanently remove the SAIS pipes). Everything is under the plastic wiring harness protector at the back of the engine and there is very little room to either move the harness or access the bolts from behind/underneath the harness.

And that's why I decided not to replace the starter lol. I can probably get the intake off again in an hour this time since I know what actually needs to come off, so it won't be an issue pulling it again. I also spent like 3 hours cleaning all of the grime and bedding out, so I hopefully won't have to do that next time. But the current starter is good for now, so I'll just cross that bridge when I get there.

Got the Alignment done today to finish up the suspension replacement. Also pulled the factory skid plate , prepped it, and painted with POR-15.

Cosmetic stuff. Now if I could finally make it to the upholstery shop to get the rest of the seats done by real professionals.
I could get replacement leather seat covers but I really would like to boost the worn out butt pad and add heating elements.

Got my drawer system and fold down table situated.

Started on a center console retrofit (hate the individual armrests). Couldn't stomach the price of getting a Prado console shipped over either. Almost at the point where I can start smoothing everything out and getting it coated. I have less than $200 into this. New seat covers without the armrest holes on order.

Tacoma side mirrors retrofitted. Surprisingly decent fit. Had to drill 3 new holes and grind a lip down a little. Made a quick filler piece to fill the gap at the difference in front lower shape of the mirror base. Used the leftover plastic from the rear mud flaps I trimmed a few weeks ago. Researching the wiring now. Shouldn't be too bad to get heat and remote adjustments working. Turn signal leads already ran.

Cleaning up all the wiring and quad projector headlight build up next.

100 series center console? More pics!!! I also hate the single arm rests, been thinking about doing the FJ tuffy box

LX470. It's not an easy mod. The base is too wide. I had to cut and splice, rivet, reinforce.......I'm a glutton for punishment.
Lol, I'm sure it'll look good in the end. I wonder if a 4th gen 4runner console would fit? I'll measure mine when I get off work and see. It's got a wider arm rest than the 100 series as well.

It won't. I looked at every configuration I could think of and the LX was the only one that was close. I think it was because they don't have a parking brake cutout. I looked at so many I forget.

The LX looked so promising, but when I got it and saw how wide it is I almost scrapped even trying. It's pretty much just the upper portion grafted to the stock GX lower (but that is a way over-simplified description).

Had to remove the inner trim panels from the seat recline hinges and trim the hell out of the kickout below the top portion of the LX console or else the seat belt receptacle and inner sides of the seat cushions would rub and dislodge everything. You can kind of see where I started contouring and blending near the seat belt receptacle. I have a 3d printed cupholder we're customizing to fit in front of the upper console. The LX upper ended up covering about 50% of the OEM GX cupholder.

So I had to trim a bunch there too moving the cupholder right up against the rear of the shifter panel. It's a lot of experimenting just like the rear swing out tire carrier. I love doing this to myself.

Yeah that makes sense about the parking brake. Lol sounds like you enjoy a challenge, and I'm sure you'll have the only GX with an LX center console 😂 it's looking good so far, already more useable than our dumb armrests and empty space

Which seat covers are you going with? I'm doing the same thing and haven't been totally happy with any of the options and of course, without the arm rest hole.

Those look great! I believe i stumbled across those during my search. If those are only available on that color and I have Ivory. I'd order those in a second if they were offered in some sort of biege or brown.
They do custom colors/materials. But super hard to get a hold of.

@racwerx just want to say it’s a blast following your build! You’ve got some serious diy skills.
Thanks man. Really appreciate that.

Skills? I'm faking the funk. My wants are always bigger than my budget. My ambitions often outpace my abilities. Kind of forces some creative solutions and lots of cussing I have no clue what what I'm doing. I'm totally winging it and learning as I go. Revision revision revision.

Thanks again. Feedback/encouragement really helps the motivation.

Got a screaming good deal on 33” KO2s in C range, so i ripped off my running boards and put them on.

Heading up to silver lake sand dunes for season opener Saturday, so I’m sure I’ll get better pics then!

After my lift a few months ago I noticed that my lower control arm bushing suffered and it was time for replacement. So after a little headache of being sent two left arms and having to exchange one I got it put back together and aligned yesterday. Also did outer tie rods since they were due. It has been an extreme improvement in drive ability for the 50 miles I’ve done so far!

Also hit a small milestone this morning with 205k miles! Here’s to 200k more!
