Headlight refreshing on my 4Runner.
800 wet sand followed with a 2000 wet sand.
Finish to a high gloss finish with a 3 step buffing process.
Compound, swirl remover, polish using a foam drill buffer pad.
Total cost less than $5 in materials I had laying around the garage.

What did they look like before? And did you use a UV protectant sealer when you were done?

Top photo is before bottom photo is after. You can see in the top photo the factory UV protection is flaking off and the lens is cloudy. Other than the wax sealer that I used which is automotive paint grade no UV protection was applied. No UV protection will help us here in AZ anyway 😂. I’ve used this method for many years on other vehicles. Usually last 3-5 years before needing to be touched up. Still significantly cheaper than replacing the factory lenses.

You can still rent things and there is a food trailer there with burgers, dogs, pizza, ice cream etc.
 
Ol girl had a rough day scouting for camp spots today... My fan clutch service made zero temp improvements, my driver's door window regulator completely bit the dust and lastly the factory weld failed on the mounting tab for the front sway bar. Always an adventure! 😆

Ouch. Just out of curiosity are you having high temp issues out just looking for better low temps in summer?
 
Just summer temp concerns. I Installed an Ultraguage recently and saw my actual temps finally. Hill pulls and heavy loads were making me uncomfortable. New engine, new cooling system, but I never serviced the clutch. It always does fine around town. I added more fluid today after I realized I was adding the recommended amount for an Aisin clutch. Mine is an Eaton. Road test time 🙂

What range of Temps are you seeing?

My low temps are usually 193 degrees and pulling a long grade like going to Flagstaff I usually see 205-207 and that was when the temp was 114 degrees outside and traffic was slow.

just for a comparison. @LandCruiserPhil would usually be a bit lower than my temps.

Using Ultragauge and did the I17 climb to flag last week and ran about 190 and then on the inline about 203 - 207.
 
I was approaching 220 on a very hot day up the hill towards Sunset Point. Ultraguage or Scanguage... worth it in my opinion.
I call these gauges , "The paranoid gauge". but well worth having one and being able to see and potentially avoid a catastrophic event.

The sample rate of does tend to make people look for problems where their are none. Short heat ups are normal as long as the cooling system can dissipate the heat on less extreme grades and flat ground after the climb. You should see your exhaust gas temperatures on those up hill climbs. :oops: But they drop off surprisingly fast.
