So looking at the Axial site http://www.axialracing.com/t/vehicles its kind of hard to determine what truck to buy? Thinking Wraith or XR10. But not sure which way to go. Open to others. I have an 80 series body kit I'd like to put on what ever I buy.

Anyone with a good basic summary as to what each model is targeted towards?

Our family has two AX10's, an SCX10, a Wraith and an EXOTerra. My kids mostly dirve these and I am chief builder/mechanic. I've got hours of run time on each one. My favorite all-around is the Wraith. It's a great basher. Decent wheel speed for playing around in the yard and it will crawl pretty well. The Wraith is a tube body so your 80 series body most likely won't fit. If you are going for a scaler made up to look like an 80 your best bet is the SCX10. The SCX platform is more geared to body changes and has the look of a real 1:1 scale truck.

AX10 Scorpion is a shaft drive rock crawler on oversized 2.2 tires. It is not a scale machine.
Ridgecrest is basically a re-bodied AX10
SCX10 is a shaft drive scale crawler on 1.9 tires.
Wraith is a scale tube bodied rock racer (think King of the Hammers) on 2.2
EXO Terra is a tube bodied desert racer/ RC short course racer. It is meant to go fast. Ours does about 50-55mph. It holds its own on the short course track with the smaller and lighter purpose built short course trucks.

There are no body risers on the Wraith. If the body fits you will likely have to drill tiny holes and mount with screws. If you really want to use that body you should look hard at the SCX10. The SCX10 running gear is very similar to the Wraith except that the axles are narrower on the SCX10. The SCX10 has provisions for mounting a body and you can get taller/shorter risers as needed. I run my SCX10 and Wraith both on 2s lipo. Both machines have TRAXXAS Titan 21 turn 550 motors which are a tad bigger than the stock axial motor case. They work extremely well and give good torque and wheelspeed. Good luck and happy shopping!

I forgot about the body mounts. Maybe I need to carve up the 80 series body and make a truggy :hillbilly: or get a 40 series body for the same purpose.

I'll check out the SCX10 as well. I'm not looking to build a scale model of my truck just don't want to wheel a jeep even in RC form. ;)

If you want to build a scaler you will want an SCX10 variant. They are more real vehicle friendly. The wraith isn't really set up to take a full body. Also, the wraith is overall larger than the SCX rigs. Axles are wider, 2.2 vs. 1.9 tires, longer, just all around bigger.

So it depends on what you want to do. The wraith is probably a better basher of the group with its' wider stance and since it is mostly a caged body so damage is minimal. My SCX10 is fun, but is a bit tippy when you get on the throttle. If you want to build something under the 80 body I would go for an SCX10, if you want a basher, go wraith. If you want all out crawler, go AX10, and if you want a go fast buggy, go EXOterra. The EXO reminds me of the buggies I had growing up, only more robust.

I love my minimal xr10 to play more hard core and then use the real 80 for the easy non breaking lines.

I just ordered a SCX10 Honcho last Thursday and it should be here toward the end of the week. I've already got a parts list bigger than my real Tacoma.

Any suggestions on a battery?

Lipo. Lipo, lipo, lipo. 2S is plenty for an SCX10, 3S for max performance. I am easily getting 4 hrs on 2S lipo, 25C, 5800mah doing general trail work and lots of crawling. Any of the reputable brands are fine - I have Venom, Hobby People, and a white label, they all work the same and no problems.

This is with Castle Sidewinder 3, Tekin 35T HD motor, stock 87t spur, 18t pinion, stock diff gears, and 1.9's.

Just picked it up today and have played around the house. It came packaged with a 3000mah NiMH. I'll be headed back to the hobby shop tomorrow for some bits and pieces to make some allthread linkages and maybe a bigger set of tires. I'll see what he's got as for batteries, but online will probably beat his prices.
