Hey Guys,

Working on my rebuild of a 1966 FJ40 and am looking into buying some new shocks. The LC has no lift and I may just go with OEM (TOYOTA) but wanted to see what everyone loves.

Thanks,

John

Before I lifted my cruiser, I had Edelbrock IAS shocks. They were awesome. It was a nice comfy ride.

I have Bilstein shocks now. They are a little stiffer than the Edelbrocks, but I don't think you can go wrong either way. Bilsteins are known for their quality.

Good luck!

I run the cheapies from Autozone. They are about $10 each with a lifetime warranty. I wear them out quickly, but they're easy to swap(and free!).

I just put some Bilstein's on my Nissan Xterra and was impressed. What was the part# you used for the FJ40?

Anyone check to see if OEM are still available? I just got OEMs for my FJ62 and they are only $25 each for a super high quality OEM shock.

I am with Andrew above. I bought from the dealership and I think the 60 series shocks were 22-24 apiece.

I have a 4" lift with extended shackles (which is why I got rid of the Edelbrocks). So the part number probably won't do you any good. But, if you measure your suspension travel, you can go to Bilstein's website here - Bilstein - and see what shocks you need.

Yeah I think i am going with the toyota shocks, they are fairly inexpensive and i know what i am getting. Im stock height anyways might as well get the shocks that are designed for the LC.

Thanks everyone!

John

I am not sure the OEM shocks are still available. I could only find OEM rear shocks only for my '69. I bought Monroe Magnums (gas) for around $75.00 for the set . I painted them black for that OE look. I am very pleased with them. It is amazing what a difference it makes when you replace 39 year original shocks with new. Good luck!

i bought the rancho rs5000 series for about 200 bucks at 4wheelparts. they had them in stock there too... checkers sells them too but they hav to order them usually

damn!!! between $10 and $200!!??? there better be a significant difference!

X3, 'cept I went with the $9 Napa brand for my budget stocker.

Thats funny, I called them today and they told me the only thing they could order were $43 something-or-others. Lying bastards...

Sorry guys.

It is clear to me that my memory is not something to be relied on.

I called my friend at Napa and inquired about the rear shocks I bought from him a while ago for my '40. He said he sold me Napa brand; the shock is called "Response". My price (then) was $13 (not $9), and the current price on this shock is $18 something each. The part number is 94008.

I hope this helps. Sorry for the misinformation.
