Got a Line on One.

A fellow BoardMember is selling some parts. They sent me some pics of the OIL Pan they have for sell. Looks to be in Good Condition. So I think I might go with that. Fingers Crossed.

Yeah inside the Oil Pan base, center, under the plate thats attached. There is bubbling or cancer in there. My pan is pretty rough shape. Neatless to say I caught in time.

The Bolt down sequence? I have the books, would you know what page number, or area chapter?

I would put the pics they sent me for the oil pan, I don't know how and I don't have photosite account..

I did mine before I lifted the Cruiser. Doing it was better than laying in oil every time I had to fix something else. I did not use OE gaskets and I have no leak. I know this doesn't make me popular but for many things OE is just not needed. This is one of those situations. FYI, might as well check out your oil pump while you are in there.

Mine was a bit loose.

Good Idea.. Checking by just trying to wiggle it?

Measure clearance between the drive gear and the housing. Should be .0079 or less. Use a feeler gage. Then check backlash similar to a differential. .0374 is your max here. Then put a straight edge on the housing across the gears. IF the straight edge is more than .059 from the gear, time to replace.

I was curious because my gage reads one line above nil for pressue when on the trail and just over two lines at 70mph. Mechanical gage reads ok but not great. Spec for pressure is 4.3psi at idle and 30 something to 70 for 3000 RPM. HTH.

Rusty: Get yourself 2 threaded studs and nuts at the auto shop. Put one on either side of the engine block (finger tight) in a convenient location. Put your oil pan up there and use the studs as a guide. Hold temporarily with the nuts on the studs.

YES! YES! YES!
I forgot about this trick....I used it to line tha pan up, but did not ues the nuts to sinch it.
This is a GREAT IDEA!

HOLY @#*& !! That is a great idea.

What is the correct torque for this? Thinking of finally taking care of my leaking oil pan too.

Thanks for all the great info. Just ordered a pan gasket for my 60 also. Now I'll have to change her name from the Exxon Valdiz to something more Eco. friendly.

Clean it throughly. Then Make sure you really Look at the pan, for rust and cancer forming ( blister or bubbling ). If You see any inside or signs of it beginnning. Don't take any chances. Get a New or Used one, in decent shape. Just say'n this so you won't be surprised if you see it.

Just pulled the trigger too. $181 out the door for a new oil pan and one piece gasket. Thanks for the extra push over the edge. No more leaks, Woo Hoo!

Anyone on that torque number?

Alldata says 69inch pounds so yeah, the above is close enough.

I am feeling inspired also. I bought my 62 real cheap, but the PO had a rusty/leaking oil pan and ordered a new pan and gasket from SOR. He never installed it due to the hassle, so his mechanic POR'd the existing pan to stop the leak, which is still working. I am going through the truck making it roadworthy again and this is one of my issues to put to rest.
