what about a 4 cylinder toyo diesel in FJ60

I have been researching this for a while now. I want to run a small diesel that gets optimal fuel economy. I am not concerned with being the fastest turd on the road. It seems to me that a 3b with a good turbo and intercooler is the way to go. Lots of opinions on this...

Two diesel swaps into 62s happening right now...
Lots to soak in...
These were long, arduous projects. The first has taken over a year (with some periods of relative inactivity) and the result is obvious. The second, mine, is the quick and dirty DIY (with help) version, and I'm in three months already and am about half way, maybe.

Edit: "Someone* corrected my false information. The BJ62 project has taken 9 months, 8 days, 12 hours and 43 seconds thus far.

a lot of info

that's a lot of info, thanks for the help.....

the 60 won't see anything but some trails, no highways or anything, so the 3b might not be a bad idea.....are there any adapter plates or anything so i can keep the 5 speed that is in there now? what is it that makes me need a new transmission if i go from the 2F to the 3B??? thanks again....

To use your current H55F you'll need to swap input shafts and this amounts essentially to a tranny tear down and rebuild. The B shaft, IIRC, is longer with a different spline count. The front bearing retainer, the cover through which the input shaft passes, also differs between the F/H and B trannys, but these are interchangeable. I have a leftover B type front bearing retainer if you go the route of an input shaft replacement and want the retainer.

tranny

thanks for the help and the offer godwin. it i grab the trans that came behind the 3B, will it bolt to my transfer case? is there any disadvantage to the 3B's tranny? Thanks again....

if it's a later 3B, the trans is a h55f. If your trans is like new you could make one transmission out of the two.

The t-case from your should bolt right on IMOP..........

The 3b is a decent engine. It is however getting a little out of date and some things are harder to find. BUT it is sippy for what it is.

I used to get 10.5 Litres per 100 kms... So 2.916 US gallons per 60 miles. 20.57 mpg US This was my highway mileage loaded up and in the hills.

Guys who say 30 mpg are talking Imperial gallons and are in different driving conditions. Your still moving a brick thru the air and it weights 5,000 lbs.

That seems really low to me.. Getting 25-30 mpg (us gallon) is doable in a BJ60. Even my 12HT powered HJ61 got 23 mpg (again, us gallon). And I measured very close to 30 mpg once in my BJ70 when I owned that..

Sure but your sea level, maybe on flatter highways.

I used a converter online just now and found that my original calculations were a bit low. 22.4 us gallons per mile is what 10.5 litres per 100 k .

I know I've seen 30 imperial once or twice, but it isn't my normal mileage.

I'll let you know in a month or so when I start driving my BJ60 again with the turbo how it does.

The fall issue of overland Journal has a great review of some toyota diesels and their specs broken down in a chart. Kinda handy info...
