wife has wanted one ever since I brought home the wrecked 91 for parts. so she finds one local 96 115,000 leather so we go to look at it and a 1/2 hour before we get there some bozzo runs into it on the street. so we talk to him anyway, and he's really bummed out and just wants to get rid of it. now he's gotta deal with insurance and all. talk to the owner about trying to buy it as is after he's done with insurance stuff. as it turns out the wrecked one we have is wrecked on the pass side, so at least I have most of the parts to fix it. hopefully know in a week or two

is that the site of the wreck? why is there no 80 shrapnel arround? lens bits, plastic bits etc.

You bought a cruiser for parts before you had a cruiser for driving?

Ouch! Makes me want to cry...buy it for a steal if you do - prime opportunity.

Must have been a pretty tall vehicle that hit him...and hard, too! I wonder if the bottle jack survived :)

no that is not the point of impact, towed to a body shop. I didn't have the digital when we went to look at it. it was on a main street that is narrow, the owner thought he would get more exposure there. going to wait and see what the insurance tells him, might need some comps. definately going to try and pick it up, either to fix or for parts.

here is the one I picked up in Jan.

Soil in Montana must be good for growing Cruisers....you have a bumper crop (ooooh, that's a pun!).

is it just me or does the rear tire in that 1st picture look "cocked". Major frame or suspension damage possibly?

Unless you can steal it from him that maybe more trouble than its worth in the long run. Remember wrecked cars are never the same and something hit that thing hard.

Nah Critter,
if there is a technician who gives a s*** about what he is doing, anything can be repaired. back to original factory specs or better if you have the time and the patience to do so.
as far as major frame damage on that one, from the photos I see inner and outer 1.4 are phucked, possible floor pan in the rear and a new lower gate. might be easier to transfer the parts to your 91 and swap out the motor and axles. cutting out an splicing all the 1/4 stuff can be a bitch but its really not that bad to do. the frame is inobard of that damge by a good 12" also the rear wxle adn locating arms are a cinch to change out.

be aware that rear window will leak if not fixed perfectly.

Are 91 and 96 body parts interchangeable? I thought there were small changes from 92 to 93.

I have a couple items off that 91 in the pics. They fit my 96 just fine. As far as the exterior goes, I think only the front grills are different.

Looks like you may be in for buying yet another cruiser, 3_puppies. If you need the broken tail light from the pass side that I have, let me know. Also, there is one here in Missoula that is for sale, 40th edition, but they want almost 18k for it. edit:(which I now see from another thread you know about)

Oh, and Helena is nice, just not as nice as Missoula :D.

Sure you could take it to someone like Boyd Cottington and have him work on it but its gonna cost way more than that truck was worth before the wreck. The other 95+% of body shops are gonna do what they have to, the damn thing will probably "cat walk" the rest of its life. I don't trust frame straighteners especially when it gets to the point where you have damaged the alignment of the suspension, I just don't believe that even if they got it perfectly straight that it will be as good or better than new. On top of that you looking at new body panels, even if you went with toyota factory replacements chances are the paint job won't be as good as the factory either. There are very few people who can paint a car as well as a factory computer controlled system can.

well the owner finally heard from the insurance man, they are totalling it. was talking to him about buying it back, but from him it's to much for me. $4300. I might try to get ahold of the insurance man direct might be cheaper.
