I am now a bonafide cruiser owner. Uh . . . let me restate that . . . an FJ60 now owns me. Cheers? Pity?

YAY...i love 60's....just hate the factory gas guzzuling 2f!!!

congrats

^^^^^^^ What he said^^^^^^^ Ask me how I know...

And doh, according to ACC a well tuned 2f should get as good of gas mileage as a 3B or 2H toyota diesel... I'm just sayin, that is what I have heard from both those fellas down that way...

couldn't tell you from personal experience about the 2H or 3B but if memory serves me correctly both of these averaged 20+mpg according to mud members that have them from Kanuckastan. And they did it SLOWLY.

Even a greatly tuned 2f you will be lucky to get 17mpg. 15mpg is a much more realistic goal

check my sig for the city mpg i was getting in my diesel 60...daily.

You find me a 2F that will get 20+mpg in a 60 and you and I will make a fortune!!!

i can get close to 15 if i am easy on the pedal.

Actually . . . these figures are encouraging. I was thinking 12 mpg.

oh yeah we need a pic as evidence that u are not just another poser!!

12 mpg seems pretty common

Jay do you really think a 2F with ANY mods from EFI to turbo to the most fuel efficient tires you can find get you anywhere near 27mpg???

lol

The opinion stated above is that of the owner/operators of ACC in Atlanta, and information that was passed to me. I am only regurgitating information that was given to me by professional Toyota mechanics. I had asked about doing a 2fe and was told the above vs the cost/labor of installing said diesel engines. Note that neither of the aforementioned engines have FI they are both NA, so on per

Perfectly flat areas I agree those diesels will get awesome gas mileage but in order for a 3b to keep up with traffic in a vehicle the weight of a 60 it needs help via FI or it will get at best what a 2f gets mileage wise

I have achieved 20 mpgs in my Pig on 35s and SOA during some perfect driving stretches. That is with a rebuilt and tuned 2F, new Downey headers, Jim C rebuilt carb, new fuel pump, boiled and lined tank, and all new gas lines and filter. I hit nearly 20 mpgs several times over a 2,800 mile road trip last summer except for when I was off road. Now, 17 mpgs is more realistic but when you are in the UP of MI on a 2 lane highway at 55 mph without any stop signs for miles and miles and miles you can get reeeeealy good mileage.

I do drive like Grandma though.

Oh, and pics or ya gotta go!

the neat thing about a diesel is it's more efficient at most all usable RPM ranges.

So a 3b diesel or 2h diesel in city traffic in a fj60 will still get better fuel mileage than the same fj60 with a 2F no matter what the tune.

Now if you want to get really specific and say a very badly maintained 3b or 2h compared to a very well tuned/modified 2F then you may get close results

but if your comparing apples to apples the diesel will win each time.

Even the heavy dog beast of a v8 diesel that is the GM 6.2 will net an average of 18+ mpg in a cruiser swap of the fj60 variety and some have reported upwards of 25 mpg in 5 speed applications.

I don't doubt the knowledge of ACC but i'm thinking what they meant is that the price of a diesel swap will not pay for it's self because of the price of a diesel.

Granted some diesel swaps will get you almost a 50% increase in mpg in most cases (12-15 mpg seem to be the average most are getting in the 2f fj60) but spending 3-5K in a diesel swap will not pay for it's self unless your making a trip around the world or she's gonna be a DD for years.

But it was nice getting 400+ miles to a tank in my fj60. Granted the 70 bucks to fill it up did suck!!!

the carb'd chevy 305 swap i have gets almost 20 mpg cruising 55 mph!!!

It's the original paint job. Still looks good, but the picture makes it look A LOT better.
