Yes. In general diesels do get slightly better fuel mileage, but you have to drive ALOT of miles to pay for the swap.

They (3b) are also slower than a well tuned 2f, and it takes fuel to make power.

Thank you for having my back Michael

Welcome to uc where we argue about diesel vs gas, football and cheap beer.

Ha! No kidding. It went downhill fast. Although, if you were driving downhill and hyper-miling, diesel or no . . . . . . . .

Yep. Sure is. He had it for ten yrs.

its purty thats for sure.

Hypermill the 2f all you want if u want to get over 25mpg diesel is your only option. I am currently working on a source for a diesel swap that is sae3 comparable and equal performance wise to the 4bt. At a fraction of the cost

u got my attention:eek:

i meant to say SAE3 compatable!!!! lol

meaning any 4 bolt chevy manual tranny will fit on her sm420 and sm465.

But i'm having to do some research on if the input shaft for the 420/465 are long enough, on some large commercial/industurial trucks they actually had longer input shafts.

Sourcing one of these should not be an issue.

But these engine will be much easier to find in generator/fridgerator applications than they were in vehicles/step vans/trucks so i got to find out how hard/if possible it is to mod the governer for street applications.

I'm also having to research happy cruising rpms, being similar to the 4bt might mean overdrive is a must.

This means a ranger over drive might be needed and if i have problems with the input shaft gap difference a spud shaft would have to be fabricated to make up for the extra space.

This is all just in "research" stages right now. But it looks like it could be promising.

125-135hp turbo industural 4 cyl diesel....cant go wrong!!!

Thank you kindly, sirs. I'm lovin' it. After driving it a week, I drove my wife's Honda Odyssey and felt like I was in a sports car. It . . . the FJ . . . is a beast. That's a good thing.
