It's a first gen single swing out which would not work for my trip to South America because it had no provisions for extra fuel.
Real simple, extend it and use 3/16th's plate and angle for a quick, functional jerry can holder.
The first thing was to strip it down and remove the bumper and weld it to the fab table.

Extend the swing out by knocking the end cap off, insert the next size smaller square tubing inside and weld all 3 pieces together with one bead.

Do some grinding

Simple but effective locking device

And relocate my HiLift to the front

Then shoehorn it into the container

I like how you split them up so they dont block the tail lights, cool! Do you have a super siphon?

Those straps may not hold the vehicle if the ship heads into rough seas. Go to Walmart and buy some cheap mattresses. Stuff them between the sides and get straps that will compress the suspension a little so the vehicle can't bounce or shift. It would suck to open the container in another country to find out both sides of the 100 are shredded.

Container shipping 100 Series to South America

When we container ship cruisers we use 1" thick marine rope double backed with a 2x4 between them to use as a lever to pull down and twist for extra torque. Once twisted down we bolt the end of the 2x4 to the floor. This is in addition to the 4x4's we bolt on all sides of the tire footprints. This system is bound so tightly that the only way to remove it is to cut it off. A little on the serious side, but it ensures no movement. We feel the extra expense is worth the protection.

Or you can just do what our last 100 series customer going to South America did, and just drive it the whole way :P He is on his way to Argentina and is now in Ecuador. No container damage, but a whole new set of risks:)

Good luck with your trip!!! build a thread for it on Mud!!!

those fuel holders are nice. Good thing they're metal. If they were like my scepter plastic army ones, i don't think i'd be able to get them out even after venting due to the swell.

Do you have any photos of exactly how you guys rig this? I am interested as I may be shipping my 100 in a few years...

At least it's in a container. I shipped my 100 to Africa roll-on-roll-off and had no damage, but the boat crew stole random crap from inside the vehicle like the bottle jack, tool set, owners manual, floor mats, cigarette lighter, etc.

I did not strap the truck in the container

I have $50k in insurance

These folks just shipped a 2013 Lexux GX460 the same exact way to Libya for some politico

And besides, a few scrapes is only going to add "character" in addition to the few dents and scrapes already on there.

A few scrapes and dents gives a 100 character. I've dragged every panel on trees and rocks. Do I regret it? Sometimes...I built it for a reason, I don't get 10MPG to look good around town...a built rig is meant to be wheeled, those who pour 10K into a truck and don't wheel it is pointless, glad to see you using a 100 for long travels. Enjoy your trip and I wish you best of luck and a safe journey. Wasn't trying to be negative, just wanted to make sure you were aware. I disabled vehicle could be a disaster if you are in a foreign country. Post pictures along the way! Great job on the rear bumper modifications. Looks great.
